Guest guest
" Compressed nerve " is a big area and not knowing just what is effected I will address the area of my experience. There is a common compressed nerve problem in the wrist, carpal tunnel. There is a lessor known nerve problem in the foot that is to the foot as carpal is to the wrist. It is a tarsal tunnel. I consulted a Neurologist, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in hand/feet, and to a Surgical Podiatrist. That was one of two problems that were rearing its ugly head. The Neurologist said, tough luck, learn to live with it. The Orthopedist said that he could release the nerve in his office as a sort of nothing procedure but advised against doing anything for the other problem. The Podiatrist recommended the surgery and since he was the only doctor that had helped me in any way I stayed with him. Since I had 2 problems, the other one being a tumor in the ball of my foot, I have no way of knowing what the tarsal alone would have been like. But he also led me to believe that the nerve release was not too much of a deal. Having said all that I want to add that all 3 doctors (and an Endocrinologist) told me my problems were not sugar related. From postings on Neuropathy sites I am inclined to think that neuropathy caused by sugar problems are much easier to overcome and respond better to treatment than neuropathy caused by other factors. In my situation I believe I made the best choice. Hope things go well with you. Betty > I am new to this site. I have Type 2 diabetes, diagnosed several > years ago. Guest guest
Cheryl, Thank you very much for your post! I certainly appreciated your insight and comments! I am happy to report that my podiatrist, after reviewing my nerve study, said that he does NOT recommend surgery at this time. He told me it is very important to take B vitamins to help the numbness. Also he emphasized the importance of wearing excellent shoes and approved the brand I am using. For the rest of you, the only way to control blood sugars and weight is to eat less and move more. Whatever method you use that works is fine.
