Guest guest
Ladies, first to both of you - I suspect that the steroid was prescribed for a skin condition and the antifungal included int he cream was to combat any yeast which may result from using the steroid!! Second - fungus and yeast are the same thing. Third - Melinda, please tell us - do you actually mean you are inserting this cream in your VAGINA - which is the inside of you . Or, are you using this topically on the outside genitalia which includes the labia, the vestibule and the clitoris. We're all imagining you using soap in your vagina, which is an internal structure. If you did google steroids and yeast you may have read by now that it can cause yeast. You might want to call your pharmacist and ask him as well. Ask for patient inserts on both Temovate and Betamethasone if you are using both -b ut ask the pharmacist if he knows whether or not steroids increase the risk of yeast. The doc may say you are fine on the phone but he's not looking at your vulva, nor is he experiencing your pain. You must decide based on your research whether or not it appears that you are reacting in a negative way to this cream. In my experience - a strong enough steroid will indeed cause yeast (aka thrush aka fungus). My experience was my father had to blow oral steroids into his mouth - 3 puffs a day and he developed yeast/thrush/fungus in his mouth and throat. He was then given Nystatin Swish and Swallow to combat the yeast/thrush/fungus. Bottom line here is you have to determine by looking at your skin (or by seeing the doc) whether or not yet another yeast infection on top of using the steroid has made your skin too sore to tolerate. Only you can be the judge now. Please keep us posted Dusty Re: Thank you for your help...yeast without masses of> discharge?> I am interested to know what conditions you are being treated for. I had not heard of steroids causing any yeast problems, so let me know if you find any further info.> > No, I did not know that. I guess like others it would be good to know why you were given the steroid. The one that you were given is a pretty potent steroid. Did it help? it is usually used mostly for LS diseases. I don't think the short amount of time would do damage unless you were irritated by an ingredient in it. A lot of women get them compounded into different bases to avoid that. Whn did the yeast symptons occur? Does soaking in bathwater with nothing in it I can't see where soaking in water would do anything bad. I soak in baths quit a bit. Sometimes my skin gets dry and I itch, but your right we have to bath. Limit the time you are in for 10-15 minutes. I agree that you do not need to use soap in the vulvar area.> for weeks increase chance of infection? Thank you so much for letting > me know that. Should I keep using this antifungal with Betamethasone (I > believe that to be a steroid as well, I will look it up)? If it is alleviating your symptons than I think you need to continue, but you have to do what you feel best about. You could also try a more mild steroid over the counter that would do as much damage. Called the > doc today and told them I had used the Temovate Steroid ointment for > two weeks and now this seems to have steroid in it too, is this okay. > They say yes, I will be fine. Does this medicine help? i looked it up, and it looks like it treats fungal infections, but I did not see yeast mentioned. Have you taken diflucan? I had yeast about a month ago, and then took diflucan daily for a week, and that helped. What were you taking before that stopped the chronic yeast?> > Do I need the steroid in it, can't they just give me a straight anti-> fungal? I am scared to use this stuff, but I am dying without using > something. Many meds could be used instead. I think that the most important thing to do right now is clear the infection. If what you are doing is providing relief than keep doing it. Yes steroids can cause damage if used excessively, but many people that have had problems used them over a very long period of time. The more you are suffering than the skin is going to keep flaring up and it will take longer to calm down. You can also use a more mild steroid. I have never been given a steroid cream for yeast. I cannot use any yeast creams unless they are the most mild such as the 7 day course ones. Have you tried the soothing agents such as olive oil, and vinegar? I know that with yeast a vinegar compress helps with the sting. Olive oil is very soothing, even using emu oil, and coconut oil as well.> > Thank you so much!> > P.S. Thanks for listening to me whine on Friday, I was so miserable, > still am, but I'm getting over myself a little more today:)> I deeply understand the pain that you feel, as well as every other lady on this board. However if you can let us know your story in more details you may learn and get some good ideas. One last thing.... When you went to doctor recently and they diagnosed yeast is there a chance that it was not? Many women have been misdiagnosed on yeast and bv too many times to count. There can be many different causes of your pain. You could be reacting to something entirely different. Steroid use especially the tamovate can thin your skin out, and make you more vulnerable to irriations of all kinds. Please let us know what you find out, and more about what is going on.
