HI. I was wondering how many people have used these with their

kids. My sons SLP is using them now and they seem to help (except

when he won't focus). I have posted looking to buy used ones but

with no luck. Do people think they are helpful? If so, I'm going to

order them anyway. We don't need to eat this month. Ha Ha Just

kidding.

Thanks for your input.

We have been using them and I think they are great. I don't

necessarily sit there and drill . Alot of times I make it a

game and make it silly and funny. Sometimes instead of having

say the single words I will try to get him to say a phrase. For

example " girl eating food " which he is getting pretty good at. My

friend, his ex-special instruction therapist says its time to

introduce him to more complete sentances....for example " the girl is

eating the food " ....I'm like....OMG I can't even imagine!!! Sorry I

went off on tangent. I just wanted to say I like the cards and I

have found they are useful for many purposes.

Hey there, I used the Kaufman cards with my son and they were so useful. I paid

about $160 but well worth it. It helped me sound out the words for my son a

little easier and we went thru the complete set in about 4 months.

The Boardmaker Computer program is at many schoolsin the Exceptional

Childrens/Special Ed department and on www.speakingofspeech.com has many

downloadable boardmaker picture symbols you can print out and make cards and

laminate them as well to asapt to your apraxia cards. Super Duper also

frequently has sale andclearance items and you might luck out there as well!!:)

-Thanks..I am going to ask my friends at the schools for some help with

this. I do have lots of boardmaker things at home already. I think I

can borrow the district's copy. My friend is the keeper of all the AT

stuff in the district.I will check superduper too. Thanks!

hithe website www.nss-nrs.com has sign & say cards. they are a little

cheaper than the kaufman cards. my sons speech therapist recommended

them over the kaufman ones because they have " real " pictures on them. i

think that website sells both...check out the difference. i think both

of them are great, i just personally like the sign & say cards better.

oops...one more thing, the sign & say cards also show you how

to " sign " the word on the card.

Hi, I'm new here and have some questions.

Do those of you with older global apraxic kids ( mine is 13) have any

success's with

the Kaufman apraxia cards ?

Also, I am going to try the Pro-EFA with my daughter. How about success

stories with

older kids and using that product?

Any other suggestions for me; she has autism and had therapy for almost 10

years, speech,

OT and PT. She is in puberty and things seem to be regressing. What about

help with school.

How do you make them understand about global apraxia when they think your

child has cognitive

deficits when in actuality it's the apraxia................

sorry so many questions !

Thanks for your help !!!!

When I bought mine I searched and searched eBay and such for a used

set without any luck. I finally just had to save up our money and

buy them at full price. I nearly choked over it but I didn't want

to wait any longer.

My daughter's new therapist uses those cards and they're pretty

cool. They have more pronunciation break downs per card than the

Kaufman cards. The new slp was telling me they were from Kaufman

but I don't they are.

At the Autism Speaks a group called Goosie at Goosiecards.com - have

cards you make yourself from your own photos for flash cards that are

used to stimulate brain development, visually cue for activity,

emotions etc. Not sure the price or if this is anywhere near

Kaufman's cards but check em out and let us know.

The cool thing is that parents create the words and concepts with

photos that are known to a child such as " uses the potty "

or " Daddy has dinner " . The reinforcement of family and friends looks

very interesting.

I spoke with my daugter's SLP today and said that I have tried to find

the lowest price for the cards....boy they go from $199.00-$163.00 for

the same box of cards. She said she would give me a big stack to work

with our daughter. The sounds we are targeting now. My husband told me

to stop searching for the lowest price and just buy the cards....but I

am glad the slp is lending us the cards.

I love boardmaker. We have lots of things labels here using

boardmaker.....we even have a meal choice book using boardmaker.

April....I love the idea of making cards you make yourself. I think I

will have my daughter help me make some.....perhaps we can start with

morning routine.

Are these cards all their cracked up to be??

If so, I'll buy some. Where is the cheapest place?

My daughter has autism and dyspraxia and is older,

are these appropriate for a young teen?

Thanks,

Kathy

actually yes they are, however there is a new workbook out, and it has the

same pictures in it as the photo cards. I think there is more than one level.

It is nice because they break words down and they are easy to use. The

workbook is so far great. I think the workbook is $100 cheaper.

They did wonders for my daughter. They are very easy for a parent to

figure out how to use them. It really helped us build up her

articulation skills in an organized fashion. In addition, we worked

with the cards for 2 (15 minute) sessions per day. So, my child

received the 3 to 5 speech sessions per week by us using these cards

at home and it made a tremendous difference.

My son also uses the cards in therapy and his articulation has

improved a lot. It is always wonderful to see him hit a word by

visually looking at the card and knowing the word he once struggled

with. Seeing him hit those words also helps me know he is making

good progress with articulation.

Check out Ebay if you want to buy some, it may be cheaper on there for a used

kit.

So happy to hear the articulation endorsement twice in one day as

that is a concern here.

At the Kaufman seminar on Friday, I was fortunate enough to be the last

person at the table (the line was very long and I almost got out of it a few

times), and the guy offered me the display box for a heftily discounted cost--

since there were 3 missing.

I jumped at the chance, and smiled at him and said " I'll take that deal,

and have my SLP copy the missing 3, but you didn't hear me say that " and he

laughed.
