Hi Everyone,

I'm looking for more groups to join like this and was

wondering if you could help - when I first was diag I joined several groups

and am now down to one...this one. I inadvertently must have un subscribed

to the others. I remember that one of the groups had the author of the

first book I read on diabetes...Gretchen Becker " The First Year:Type 2

Diabetes " . Can anyone tell me how to get back on that group and others?

Thanks!

I obviously belong to this group but was also looking

for other groups like this to join. I have mostly been a lurker! I was diag

T2 in 99 and control my diabetes with Glucophage XR 1500 mg daily after my

evening meal, diet and exercise. My H1C is between 5 and 5.5 (that was my

last one 3 months ago).

Lately, it seems that my numbers have been creeping up although I must

confess that some times I will cheat a little on my low carb diet. It is so

very hard not to have any bread at all. I am 59 years old 6' 1 " & 175 lbs

so I'm not overweight. I believe I was diagnosed later rather than sooner

because before I was diag I had what I now know is peripheral neuropathy in

my left foot which has gotten a little worse in the last year. I have also

been taking 300mg twice a day of ALA (Jarrow-Sustained Release) for my

neuropathy and it hasn't seemed to help. I have a food question: Is

applesauce alright to have if you're a diabetic? I'm talking about the lite

version. I love applesauce.

Also, what is the 1 or 2 best little pocketbooks or charts you can carry

around that lists the carbs of all the foods? I know Atkins has 1 but I

believe that there are 1 or 2 others. Thanks in advance for all your

help...I do appreciate it!

It's become sort of a steath group. To protect member's e-mail addresses from

spammers, the group is not listed in the Yahoo directory. You can't find it if

you search for it. But the link above will take you there and I believe, it's

listed at www. mendosa.com

I would guess, no. It's basically apples, perhaps with sugar

added. On the other hand, the acid test would be using your meter.

Eat some, then test later. If you're BGs are okay, then you can

tolerate apple sauce. If they go too high, that's a warning. Even if

they go high, you might consider apple sauce an occasional treat. Or if

you manage your carbs, you can probably find a way of fitting some in.

Smaller portions. Eating some as a snack between meals when your

pancreas isn't being challenged by other carbs. There are ways. It's

a living hell to say " never again. " It's easier to find a way to manage

it from time to time.

Thanks Ed,

I appreciate your response...I guess I'll try the group

and I will take your advice on the applesauce. I don't quite understand

what you meant by steath group? Have you ever heard of Gretchen Becker and

the group that she belongs to?

This is the link to the World Diabetes list. It's the same list that

Gretchen's on, the one owned by Dr. Arturo Rolla. Gretchen is still there and

still posts bad jokes at the drop of a hat.

The list moved. It's on Yahoo Groups now. It's no longer on it's original

server, because e-mail problems developed. I think this was during one of those

times when some new virus hit the nation all at once and transmission times were

getting delayed. It moved to Yahoo Groups, but there was concern about

spammers due to Yahoo's overt cooperation with them. So Peg and Arturo

selected the option which prevents people from finding the group by searching.

That's what I meant by " stealth. " If you go to Yahoo Groups and search for

" diabetes, " you'll find a bunch of diabetes discussion groups, but not the World

Diabetes group. If you bother to search, you'll find the diabetes-world list

(spelled with a hyphen), which is a different group. The diabetesworld list

(spelled without a hyphen) is not publicly listed. Either you know someone,

like you know me, who can give you the link or you can find it listed at the

Mendosa site. Perhaps it's listed elsewhere too, but you won't find it at

Yahoo Groups unless you already know where it is. It's like the Isle del

Muerta in " Pirates of the Caribbean, " it can only be found by people who have

already been there. Stealth.

Gretchen is a member of Diabetes World - and so are some other writers such

as Rick Mendosa. Anyway I've just approved your membership over there (I'm

one of the moderators) so I look forward to seeing you post sometime.
