There is no doubt that you remove layers and you could remove costs.

So, in theory, let the government administer all health insurance and

do away with the for-profit insurance companies and turn all

hospitals over to be run like VA hospitals are now. Would it be

better? Heavens, if I know, but its not going to happen so we must

look for solutions in between. You think we would possibly implement

a plan putting all those companies out of a part of their business?

Let's talk about free enterprise and politics and protecting an

industry at its worse. I grew up in NC, a wonderful state except for

one thing. We're the leaders in cigarettes and killing people through

them. If any other product was proven to have the side effects of

cigarettes, do you think we'd allow it to be sold? Why do we put

warnings on the packs saying these will kill you, instead of just

outlawing them all? We find saccharine isn't good for mice and its

off the shelves until we realize humans couldn't possibly consume the

equivalent dosage. But the point is that if it falls under the realm

of the FDA it has to meet certain safety standards. If not, anything

goes.

We need another branch of government....the branch of common sense.

lol.

Bruce, In regard to medical costs being a

prime reason for personal bankruptcy..it is also

the largest overhead cost for many small businesses as well. My husband

owns a mechanical

contracting firm and the single most expensive cost for the company is

medical insurance.

When we first went into business 24 years ago, he was able to include

Blue Cross / Blue Shield ( HMO like)

Keystone coverage with no -payroll deductions for all the employees.

Now, everyone has upfront out of paycheck costs

in addition to the co-pays. It wasn't possible to continue to give

that benefit to all 50 people without going broke ourselves.
