Guest guest
Wow,At least you can get an erection! LOL. It is kind of surprising the first few times I went to the bathroom after the cath was removed. Still have to be sure I have it pulled all the way out of my pants to avoid an accident!Yes, I was told that it would shrink the length of my penis, but that was one of the trade offs I accepted to stay alive. I still can't get an erection 9 months out, and probably won't since the nerves were also removed that help provide one. Another trade off I accepted to stay alive. If you weren't told where the prostate was, and that it could and would affect penis length, I am sorry. The uro I had was very thorough about what to expect when he told my bride and I about what my options were and the side effects of them.Stay healthy,Dan HarrimanOrange TexasIf at first you don't succeed, maybe you shouldn't try sky diving!Subject: penis length is shortenedTo: ProstateCancerSupport Date: Sunday, February 20, 2011, 10:53 PMI had my prostate removed but was never told that it usually also affects the length of the penis. Make sure you talk to your surgeon about the chances of it happening, as it was and is quite a surprise to find out after the fact. I saw it mentioned by several other people in here before, so I started reading up on it in medical journals on the net. Most men that have it removed lose on the average 1/2-1 inch in length. It would have been nice to know before the operation or I may have looked for an alternative plan. I only had a 5 inch penis before, and now it's closer to 4 with a full erection. ------------------------------------There are just two rules for this group 1 No Spam 2 Be kind to othersPlease recognise that Prostate Cancerhas different guises and needs different levels of treatment and in some cases no treatment at all. Guest guest
The lost inch is caused by the removal of the prostate. Normally the urethra is connected to the prostate and the prostate is connected to the bladder. Remove the prostate and the urethra needs to be connected to the bladder. Yes, it is a bumer to lose that precious inch but I think it was better than the alternative of leaving the prostate in. Doctors often don’t mention this along with a couple of other “secrets” for fear that you may make decisions based on the wrong criteria. I know early in my diagnosis I was searching for any option to save sexual functions. I frustrated several doctors with my questions. It wasn’t until a couple of them made me understand that what I was facing was life threatening desease (I had an aggressive and advance form of PCa) that I started to reorganize my priorities. A nice long stiffy isn’t going to help you if you are buried in a box. The Lupron may have have help with my priorities too. Now that I am on the other side of treatments I am beginning to explore my “rehabilitation” options.
