Guest guest
Methotrexate can be an effective drug for sarc, however it normally works best when combined with another drug such as immuran, hydroxychloroquine, azathioprin, or several other drugs. Remember when using methotrexate that it usually takes 3-6 months for it to become effective. It needs to build up in your system. Fifteen is a pretty average dosage to start with. It varies from doc to doc. Some prefer to start with ten others go right to fifteen. I cannot emphaxize how important it is to take your folic acid. It is essential when taking methotrexate. Normally its best taken at night. As Ive seen already mentioned, yes it does cause nausea and sleepiness until your body gets used to the dosage. But normally you get used to it within a few weeks. You'll find it is quite common for persons with sarc to develop fibro as well. You really need to push your doc for some pain meds when the pain becomes intolerable and unfortunately it does. If your doc wont help tell him to refer you to a pain specialist or a rheumatologist. A rheumi is quite knowledgeable about the fibro as well as the sarc so hopefully you can come up with a pain combination that is effective. Take care my friend. Shar > Hi all, > I know I've asked people in the group about methotrexate before because there was a possibility of me going on it, but now that the Rheumatologist has prescribed it, I can't remember who replied or what was said! (Go figure!) Anyway, he is starting me on 15mg 1x wk along with folic acid. Is that the " average " dosage? Also, when is the best time of day to take it and what day of the week? He suggested that I take it on Fri. mornings. But I was wondering if I experience any side effects, how soon would they occur and how severe? Also, he thinks I have developed fibromyalgia. Anyone have that? I asked for some pain medication, but the only thing he offered was to put me on prednisone which I DEFINITELY don't want to do. > Thanks for any input you may have, " Forgetful Debbie T.
