Guest guest
Not sure what state you are in but usually EI transitions on after 3 to a different program, which then assists the family into transition to the public school system. At least that's how it is here in the dreaded state of PA. ~K [ ] transition from EI to Public school Hi , mom to Liam, WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF PUBLIC SCHOOL! What I cannot understand is why early intervention doesn't go on until the child enters kindergarten....it just doesn't make sense to me that there is an arbitrary cut off at three...when so many are not toilet trained yet and are still dealing with separation issues and are often delayed in a variety of ways...the schools are not responsible for other children until they are kindergarten age, why ours? They are not set up to family centered so why do we have to depend on them as soon as our child turns three, no matter what! This has always irked me to no end...seems like we should get the law changed here! LOL Seriously, I am sorry you had such a bad experience.....but mine was very similar in that my son had done so well in EI that they didn't think he should have any services at all for three months until their new school year started! ( my son's birthday is end of June) The transition for my son was an absolute fiasco....we ended up going private therapy three hours a week at age three until we moved to another state over a year later. I hope yours turns out better....you might want to point out to them that you have a life and can't waste your time going to meetings where others come unprepared! Guest guest
There was a support meeting on 12/9 in NJ regarding this same issue. I wonder if any of the attendees could share what was learned on this difficult period of transition. Thanks, Patti
