Guest guest
Welcome to the list! I'm glad the ADA plan is working for you...but do be aware, with diabetes, one thing you can certainly count on is Things Change. When you come to the point where the ADA diet isn't working for you, you might consider lowering your carb exchanges. Try reading " Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solutions " too; it's an excellent book about controlling diabetes. Dr. Bernstein also has a website; the URL is http://www.diabetes-normalsugars.com/index.shtml There's lots of excellent information about diabetes there. Guest guest
Carbs are more than just bg raisers to me. Carbs for me call for more and more carbs and did before I had diabetes. The exchanges full of carbs would confuse me. I need a very simple plan of eating. I eat whole grain but very little of it. I eat mostly protein and veggies and some salad dressing. I would slip back into thinking I could handle all the carbs and I for one, can't. But for me the 40-30-30 the dietician gave would be doable, but still complicate the process. That is just me. Guest guest
>How's everyone else feel about exchanges? If you are comfortable with it, you can use the Exchange method for measurement and calculation while still choosing to avoid massive carb consumption. In other words, use the " method, " but not the " diet. " Sandy T1 - 1979
Guest guest
Hello Mike, Return salutations to NTID and RIT! : ) Thanks for introducing yourself--it's good to know there's at least one other ASL user out there on the list. <smile> To answer your question: for me personally, it's the lower carb approach that keeps my bgs within normal ranges. I'm not necessarly anti exchange, but rather pro what's effective. What I do strongly object to is that education about healthy lifestyle for diabetics often doesn't present a range of possible options with pros/cons. I appreciate that I've been exposed to various approaches via this list. I like informed choice!
