Guest guest
Reading the messages on this site, there is obviously no " standard " proceedure for recovery from BHR. Each surgeon has his own idea of do's and dont's and how he wants things done. For what it is worth, I have just had my 6 week post op session with my surgeon. I have been on two crutches and Teds for the past 6 weeks, slept on my back with a wedge between the legs, no pain killers and have had no real problems at all. The surgeon is very pleased with my progress and told me to continue with one crutch for another week or so and also do my exercises as much as is comfortable, like swimming, exercising on a stationary bike and walking. Other than that, no specific physiotherapy is needed or has been recommended. He said the chances of dislocation is low and it is the muscles now which will determine how quickly I regain full mobility. Meanwhile, I can try and do all the things I did before the operation including playing golf. " Anything goes " is his his words. The only sporting no no are impact sports like rugby and football which I did not do before the op and therefore is not a problem. This is much sooner than I had anticipated and did not expect to swing a club for at least another 6 weeks. I still limp, the muscles are a bit stiff and I cannot do my own shoelaces up but the surgeon says this will all get better in time. I have yet to try and walk up and down stairs properly. Overall, I am delighted with the way things have gone. I need to have an x-ray after a year, then 5 years and then 10 years as part of the on-going research study program. I hope this is of interest and help to others. I have read other peoples comments and experiences on this site with great interest and would like to wish you all the very best and continued success.
