Babies dehydrate VERY fast. It is nothing to mess around with. I would suggest if your baby doesn't eat or drink anything else (or very little else) by 8pm tonight, call the doctor back. Doctors know better than to mess around when babies begin to get dehydrated....Really try to push fluids.

Thanks , she is napping now been down for about little over an

hour. This is the longest she's slept during the day for the last couple

of days. I figured I'd wait for her to wake up (I'll wake her if she

sleeps too long) and if she doesn't eat then I'll give them a call.

I just hate this part of being a mom, sick or hurt kids are the worse thing.

Sue,

I am no expert here but it sounds to me like it could be allergies or

just a spring cold / flu......maybe even the results of teething. My advice

is to continue to offer fluids as often as you can if only a sip every ten

minutes.....monitor the wet diapers every day (24hours) as long as there at

least 6-8 wet diapers she shouldn't be dehydrated.....if you aren't getting

at least 6 wet diapers then she may need IV intervention to hydrate

her....there isn't much a doctor can do for the common cold other than

advise you to keep the fever down and keep close watch on hydration....she

will eat when she is hungry so dont worry as much about that.....just keep

your eyes on her coloring.....but like I said I am no expert so you do what

you feel is right in your own gut....and GOOD luck on a speedy recovery

They told me that you can tell if they dont have wet diapers that they are dehydrating. I dont remember where you live Sue, but there is a service called ask-a-nurse in alot of areas... you could check to see if this is available in your area??? If she has not wet/soiled a diaper in over two hours at her age then I would say that you need to call the doctor. Dont try to give her things like gatorade and such, if she is not drinking then give her some pedialyte so she gets all she needs from it! Sorry to hear about this Sue. I'm in the same boat right now -

we are all sick.

Everyone else gave you such great advice the only thing I can add

is I call the doctor whenever I feel like it with my kids, that

is what they are there for. IF ever in doubt, they just call

and ask them.

My experience with little ones is that is does not take long at all for them

to dehydrate. You really need to watch and get her to the doctor if she

does not start taking in more liquids.

Well I'm a bit shocked the nurse called me back and she said that as long

as they have a wet diaper (doesn't matter how much just wet) once every

8-12 hours then not to worry but if it goes beyond that then we should call

back or bring her in.

We did manage to get a couple ounces of water in her and a few more ounces

of formula. She is sleeping now (shhhh don't let her know) and I'll see

how she is first thing in the morning.

Now to top it off my 3 yr old has a runny nose, voice almost gone and a

temp and I still feel miserable and dh thinks he's getting it.

Want a good investment???? Buy stock in the pharmaceutical companies. ;o)

I " m getting ready for bed now I just hope we can all get some rest.
