Diane, Besides chocolate I don't have GERD symptoms if I stay away from coffee ( and I love coffee more than chocolate!) greasy foods and acidic foods ( tomato sauce, orange juice). It is hard to cut them all out of my diet and I must confess I cheat once in awhile but I pay for it afterwards when I can't sleep because of the burning! Sarcoid/PF 3/2006 California-----

I have gerd and I had an edoscopy. I have problems with the lower spinchster. I had to have mine enlarged due to gerd. I am unable to keep thingdown because it comes back up. MY dr I take 80mg of nexium a day he also told me not to eat three hours before bed time and dont lay down right after eating duh! I aready know this. i am going to watch wht i eat and keep a food diary. i do notice when I cut out my chocolate that seems to help some. Arg My colonoscopy was yessterday and It came back good. I took the cherry it tasted nasty at first then It went down soso. They can now do it with miralax. My sister did it tnhat way. MNext time I have to have this done I will ask about the miralax. diana nsip ray2002 canton ohioBruce Moreland <brucemoreland@ gmail.com> wrote: Gerd is a lifetime issue from the day you find out you have it. If you find you're still having symptoms in spite of the meds, get to your gastrointologist. I would think an upper endoscopy could be called for to see any damage being caused. In fact, I can't imagine diagnosing GERD and not doing one. (I've had 4 so far). Certainly Barrett's is to be looked out for. Barrett's itself isn't the problem. The issue is that it is often a precursor to cancer. Surprised Protonix is working for you when nothing else did because its generally considered the worst by the gastrolintologists. It's used by hospitals only because its given to them for free. Some of us are on higher dosages than normal, such as 80 mg a day of

Nexium (which for most can be accomplished as easily if costs becomes an issue with 40 mg a day of Prilosec OTC). Look into elevating the head of your bed. The Mattress Genie is the least expensive way I know except for the simple one which is to put the headboard on blocks. As to GERD causing PF or PF causing GERD or both being caused by the same thing, who knows. What we do know is that a lot of us had GERD Before our PF diagnosis and a lot more get it after. >> I knew that there were a lot of people with PF that have GERD but I > didnt know that GERD could cause PF did anyone else know of this? I'm on another support group for my dermatomyositis, and we were having a conversation about why we think the myositis started. Nearly all of us had a large amount of stress on our immune systems in a relatively short space of time before the myositis manifested itself. In my case, I split up with my fiance of 7 years, lost my mum to lung cancer, hurt my back falling down some stairs and had a nasty ear infection, all in the space of about 4 months. On top of this was the normal colds etc. We wondered whether the unusual stress was the trigger, although we appreciated that we would have to be pre-disposed to it in the first place. The way that my GERD symptoms were dismissed by the professionals once the meds were satisfactory meant that I dismissed them too. I also get post nasal drip, but I've only noticed that relatively recently since being diagnosed with PF

Zena, I have wondered about the stress connection too. In my case my husband and I split up, youngest child had just moved out, my dad tried to commit suicide ( I found him) and my mom died of lung cancer all in 11 weeks time. I felt like I was going to have a nervous breakdown and instead I got PF. I have noticed that others on the board went through life changing experiences right before they got sick. It is curious isn't it? Take care- Sarcoid/PF 3/2006 California Re: GERD and PF

Yep it sue does make you wonder. That is like I keep telling

everyone these infections started before I had RA and the

medication. They seem to loss site of that.

Not sure what my major stress was back then accept for that

infection, its been down hill ever since so maybe that was my stress

trigger. Either way Iknow stress is a huge thing, especially in like

crohns disease adn stuff.
