Guest guest
Hello all: I have a question about exercise. Our family joined a gym. I am determined to work out, but very slowly! I use only 10 to 15 pounds of weight. I do only bicycle and weight machines. I only go 2 - 3 times per week. I've noticed a large increase in muscle pain, not unexpected. What I'm wondering is this: Have any of you tried to tame the wolf with mild exercise? If so, did the wolf finally let go? Did your muscles ever acclimate? Any input would be appreciated. Guest guest
hey, it might help if you take a advil or something of that nature before you begin your workout to reduce some of the muscle discomfort. personally, because of medication and swelling i don't see the benefits of exercise as quickly as i would like to, but i do have more energy. so just hang in there and talk to your doctor maybe they can give you a little something for the pain...shan > > > Date: 2003/06/23 Mon PM 10:28:32 EDT > To: LUPIES > Subject: Exercise and Lupus > > Hello all: I have a question about exercise. Guest guest
, I had my greatest success in using very mild exercise, and in water. In fact, if my Lupus lesions were not so prominent as to get me kicked out of the local pool, I would still be going every morning at 5:30 a.m. to do my routine. However, I am not allowed in the local public pools right now because of the lesions. Other clients have complained that I " might be contagious " , and it is just too much hassle to explain every five minutes to the uninformed. So, I do mild stretching routines at home, but it's not the same. Water exercise was best for me. Good luck, Hugs, MM
Guest guest
oy, the idea of a bike in a gym makes my knees hurt just thinking about it, but it know exersize is really important..i count on my physical therapist to get me on a plan of action that is designed for my ra and lupus, and on bad days the instructions are not to skip it, but make the same movements, really small....ask a physical therapist who knows your condition what they'd say...i am told swimming is the perfect thing for us. depending on your skins condition...i wish i had the energy to get dressed undressed shower and dry my hair twice a day!! lol no really!! leslie > hey, it might help if you take a advil or something of that nature before you begin your workout to reduce some of the muscle discomfort. personally, because of medication and swelling i don't see the benefits of exercise as quickly as i would like to, but i do have more energy. so just hang in there and talk to your doctor maybe they can give you a little something for the pain...shan > > > > From: " bunny42260 " <bunny42260@y...> > > Date: 2003/06/23 Mon PM 10:28:32 EDT > > To: LUPIES > > Subject: Exercise and Lupus > > > >

Guest guest
, I don't have much more energy than that, but I just skipped the shower before pool time, then showered off the chlorine after. Worked fine that way. MM

Guest guest
The only exercise I can tolerate is swimming. I don't think it helps the pain, but it definately helps with strength and that helps with the exhaustion. My problem is motivation...since it doesnt' help the pain, I have a hard time making myself get out of the house and DO it. It's just one more activity that I have to take drugs to get me through, I try because it is so good for me, and it also helps sleep. Hope you find something that will work for you! > Hello all: I have a question about exercise. Our family joined a > gym. I am determined to work out, but very slowly! Guest guest
Yes, really! Thinking of cutting all my long hair off... I already look like crap, what's another good feature gone? Swim is good but involved! Guest guest
a B, You will not believe this! I was just going to ask my niece to cut off my hair yesterday but got sidetraked. It has gotten so that it hurts my arms so bad to brush it and even put curlers in it. I feel real bad because I love my hair and it's the only thing that makes me feel like I look nice when I fix it. I am rethinking now. Maybe I will wait a week or so and see if I still feel the same way? a C
Guest guest
Deb - I read your post and cried. Glad everybody is in bed cuz it was a real gusher. I felt my hair was my only good feature. Weight gain because of prednisone, facial lesions and scaring - - Then it got so I couldn't hold my arms up long enough to use a curling iron or even set in regular or hot rollers. For a couple years I let my mother curl it for me. My hair is really fine so even with a perm it doesn't hold a curl well. How can I expect my mother or anyone else to set my hair for me all the time? So, it is now super short and without perm. I find I'm avoiding looking at my face in the mirror. Caught myself brushing my teeth with my eyes closed and realized I always do that now. For me, cutting my hair was my best choice. I have a few really nice wigs that look good when I wear them. You wouldn't know I'm wearing a wig if you hadn't seen me without one. But - I sure don't suggest going with a super short hair cut unless you really want one. My sis wants her hair that short, and it looks super good. Hugs - a B. > > > hey, it might help if you take a advil or something of that > nature > > before you begin your workout to reduce some of the muscle > > discomfort. personally, because of medication and swelling i don't > > see the benefits of exercise as quickly as i would like to, but i > do > > have more energy. so just hang in there and talk to your doctor > maybe > > they can give you a little something for the pain...shan > > > > > > > > From: " bunny42260 " <bunny42260@y...> > > > > Date: 2003/06/23 Mon PM 10:28:32 EDT > > > > To: LUPIES > > > > Subject: Exercise and Lupus > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
It really is the little things that get to us, isn't it? People take for granted what they have, I guess we appreciate so much because we have lost so much... maybe that is the lesson we were to learn.... I am blessed that I don't have the skin lesions that so many Lupies suffer from. I regard my flax seed oil and my vitamins as the reason my skin has stayed as good as it has. I still get exhausted when I have to be in the sun, though. Our pharmacy was selling lawn & garden chairs and one chair had a canopy on it... we bought 2! Now I can sit on the river bank and fish without a golf umbrella.... Only doesn't work at high noon. I don't really look good in supe short hair, my hair is fine but very curly (lots & lots of spirals that I hated as a child, but envy now) Only because it is almost black the bald spots shine...lol Just put a picture of yourself that you like on your bathroom mirror and remember you are still your own sweet self inside! My sis also has very short hair and looks good on her, I'm 5'10 " and short looks awkward.... sigh... Hugs.......Deb > > > > hey, it might help if you take a advil or something of that > > nature > > > before you begin your workout to reduce some of the muscle > > > discomfort. personally, because of medication and swelling i > don't > > > see the benefits of exercise as quickly as i would like to, but i > > do > > > have more energy. so just hang in there and talk to your doctor > > maybe > > > they can give you a little something for the pain...shan > > > > > > > > > > From: " bunny42260 " <bunny42260@y...> > > > > > Date: 2003/06/23 Mon PM 10:28:32 EDT > > > > > To: LUPIES > > > > > Subject: Exercise and Lupus > > > > > > > > > >
