The surgery lasted four hours and he is in the recovery room. He was supposed to go to a stepdown unit but they did not have beds. So he will spend the night in recovery. Dr. Vogel did a Distal(tail) pancreatectomy and a spleenectomy. He called me in the waiting room and told me that it looked like a bomb had gone off in there. He said there was an enormouse amount of inflamation and several pseudocysts. He lost a couple of units of blood but that they were trying not to give him any to replace it. Unless his hematacrit goes down. I talked to him and he has an NG tube and two JP's that I could see but he sounded fine. He was appropriate and alert. I hope you are all doing well. My heart goes out to you both. That is the exact surgery I has last September 1999. I, also, had so many tubes coming and going that I was scared to move. It is hard to feel that the surgery was the right thing to do, especially when I felt so bad. God gave our bodies much resiliency with an ability to heal miraculously fast. I will keep both of you in my prayers asking that God keep a guardian angel in constant vigilance in the road to recovery ahead of Jim. Bless you both. Guest guest
Dear Dodie, I am so glad that you were able to give us an update. I really wanted to wish Jim well before his surgery but before I knew it the day was here. You both are in my thoughts!!
