Guest guest
Dear Judy, I wish you all the luck in the world. I am not quite as old as you are but I have a long list of health issures and I am also in a wheelchair. I am 59 years old, I had a starting weight of 386 with a BMI of 65, I was a diabetic, I have an aorta annesrysm, irregular heartbeat and high blood pressure. I had a LAP on March 22, 2003. I have NOT had any adverse effects of the surgery. I was in the hospital 2 day and had a small amount of pain. Two weeks after the surgery I could not even tell that I had surgery except for an occasional twing in the left side where most of the surgery was done. I have lost 73 pounds since March and considering that I am in a wheelchair and not very active I think that is pretty good. I am no longer diabetic, my blood pressure is in control and I no longer take any medication except for one half of a heart pill for the irregular heartbeat. I was litterally dying. I would encourage anyone to go for it. It is well worth it. Good luck and God Bless You!! A. B. LAP RNY 3/22/03 BMI 65/54 386/313 - 73LBS. Guest guest
My mother is 60 and she wants the lapband, but she doesn't want to go with my surgeon.. She thought she was too old too.. But I guess you're never too old to start a new life.. She's waiting to see what happens with me before she does anything.. Goodluck! Guest guest
Hi Judy I had open RNY on April 7, 2003. I was 65 at that time . I weighted 315 and had many other medical things wrong but came thru just fine.. I;m a slow loser and have lost only 60 lbs. I have bad knees and can hardly walk never mind exercise. I used a walker before surgery and now I'm using a cane. I can eat almost everything except barbecued meats Hopes this will help you. Good luck to you. Guest guest
Hi Gayle, We are going about the same speed. My surgery was on Mar 22, 03 and I have only lost 73 lbs. I too have lots of medical issue along with the fact that I am in a wheelchair and can't expend a whole lot of energy. It makes for a lot slower process for us. I am 59. Good luck and keep in touch.
