Guest guest
I'm getting hit with a gazillion virus laden messages every day, and no way to know where they are coming from, of course. Therefore, will everybody please run a virus detection program on their computers? You could have it and not know it. BTW, between Norton Anti-Virus and Zone Alarm nothing is getting through ... yet. Guest guest
<< watch out for norton! i've repaired 3 computers this past 2 weeks that both all had norton on them with viruses that got through! >> We still have to use good judgment: don't open any attachments that look even slightly suspicious (e.g., does an e-mail from a friend or relative who is educated contain misspellings or punctuation errors? could indicate the mail is a fake, and that your e-mail address was scooped up from that person's Address Book unknown to them). And no antivirus will catch viruses if it isn't updated constantly. Set it to automatically update at least once a week, at a time when you are likely to be online, and also check it manually for updates. Guest guest
Where did you purchase these? Or are these free shareware? TIA Kay Re: Viruses I have Zone Alarm and Panda Titanium firewall. I've never had a virus (knock wood!) Vicki
Guest guest
Speaking of viruses -- how do you get rid of them if your virus scanner picks up one? Just asking? Kay
Guest guest
Nope, they aren't freeware. I paid for them...but they're not expensive and well worth the cost. Here's the relevant URLs: http://www.pandasoftware.com/ http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/home.jsp " Of course " , I defrag monthly too. Guest guest
Depending upon which version of Windows you are running - it's a tiny bit different but for Windows XP it's this simple - Go to Start then Programs, Accessories, Systems Tools, and Disk Defragmenter and run a defrag. No biggie...... Re: Viruses Ok, sounding dumb here. How do I defrag? G
Guest guest
I use the free version of Zone Alarm as my firewall. http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/catalog/products/sku_list_za.jsp?lid=home_\ zainfo I am on with a broadband connection all day, every day, and it works like a charm, although set up can be a little intimidating. It can be a bit frightening on days when a coordinated attack is underway, and you see attempts from all over the world to access your PC at a rate of one a second! Guest guest
My Zone Alarm was free, but I got just the basic firewall - not the advanced model with the anti-virus. http://www.downloads.com Susie
