Christy, Hi there The norm is if you are on under 20mg of Methotrexate it is

normally given in pill form ie... 7-17 mg, Like I was on, but when you

require more ie...20mg it is normally given by IV or injections. Hope that

halps.

I've been on Methotrexate for 2.5 years, and have stayed at 17.5mg (pills).

Just last week I made my first injection at the same dosage, into the stomach

area (sub q). Needles are 28G,1/2 "

I have been on Methotrexate for 2 years. I take pill form on every Thursday.

Was taking 17.5 mg., but having trouble so the doc increased to 20mg. for

the last 3 weeks. I cannot tell a lot of difference yet. Doc said it

usually takes about 6 months for the stuff to do any good. I did not know of

injections. I have had few side affects other than mouth sores and sickness.

What other instructions have been given.

on metho for about 16 months started at 6mg then to 10mg and has been on 20

for about a year by pill..he has not had any stomach problems..he takes 20mg

of pepcid ac twice a day..he is also on cyclosporin(sandimunne) 100 mg twice

a day for about 8 months..he was down to 6 mg of pred until about a month ago

when he had a flare and he went up to 40...he is on his way down again

taking 25 as of today. Pete also takes xanax 0.5mg twice a day, maxide 25mg

once a day,zoloft 50mg once a day,resperdal0.5mg a twice a day(that's

controlling the " sirens " from the damage done to the vestibular system) and

Mike do you notice a difference in side effects between the metho orally or

injection?

Hi-- After Pete lost his hearing he started having ringing in his ears which

progressed to what he describes as police sirens..made him crazy..with the

respirdal he has occassional low ringing, humming and what he describes as

" choirs " ,mostly accompanied by some other symptom of flare,so he takes extra

pred and it stops..Pete also has damage to the Vestibular system: he has no

balance response. Most of Pete's difficulties stem from his first attack

prior to diagnosis, once we knew what he had we knew to use the pred for

flares and so far have prevented any furethwer damage except for a tiny bit

moree hearing loss.Take care Janet

I started with the pill Methotrexate and am now giving myself injections once

a week. I started with 3 pills and increased the pill form until 6 pills (I

think) Sorry, my memory is not all that good with my medications I am on more

than a dozen. I then went to injections starting at .6 and have increased to

..7 I probably would have gone to .8 this week, but missed my appointment

because of my tooth problem. I was told that I would go to .8 or .10 before

I stop increasing. I give the injections myself and I cannot tell you

anything about the needle other than it is a regular needle with a plunger

(LOL) Sorry, that is what it looks like. What is sub q or IM???? Ronnie
