I just used regular non-GAP socks for . Just make sure that

they are a nice weight (not too thin) and that there aren't very

large seams.

If the shoes are leaving marks that don't go away 15 minutes after

you take them off, then I think it's a good indication that something

is rubbing or too tight. Just make sure that his heel is all the way

in the back and down when you put the shoe on, and pull the strap as

tight as you're comfortable with. I've found that the thickness of

the socks makes a difference in what hole I use, also, the leather

strap stretches, so the hole may change.

Best of luck!

Jakob wore the shoes before the Baby Gap socks were recommended. We

used whatever socks we had (mostly from Wal-Mart or Target). My

favorite ones over the last 2 1/2 years have actually been the McKids

socks from Wal-Mart (they're thicker than other cheap socks, but not so

thick to hinder putting the shoes on). I have found that it is

difficult to put the shoes on when there is the rubber grip surface on

footed sleepers.

Out of curiosity, what was the problem in putting your son's shoes on?

I don't think I have ever used the last hole on any pair of the shoes on

Jakob's DBB. If they are too tight, you'll have imprints from the socks

or the plastizode insert (the heel cushion) that won't go away within a

half hour.

I can't think of anything else right now. Sorry I can't be much help.

Hello,

I hope that your son's day in the shoes when well! I personally like to use

the Gap socks. Dr. Ponseti didn't recommend them, but I know that I have

recommended them because I like them so well. We use the kind with the

rubber gripper on the bottom. Ivy was/is very petite. Now at 15months old

she is only wearing a size 2 baby shoe. I like the socks because they fit

her heal perfectly, the heel is not bunching up on the leg. Second, the

long top that cuffs can either be rolled/cuff over the tied laces; to give

her a bit more to " work " at when attempting to untie those shoes.

likes the sock because of the long cuff, which he pulls all the way up past

the knee, keeps her warm. I bought a bunch of " off season " colors on sale

for $1 a pair. That helped , who incially balked at the price. :o)

It does take practice putting the shoes on. We still use team work to get

them on. Ivy struggles, but it is more because she know that it is bedtime.

Hello everyone,

I just thought that I would put in my two cents about putting on the

shoes and socks, etc. When I put on Sam's shoes, I find it easoer if

I put on the shoe for his clubfoot first. He never complains about

the shoe being on that foot. I guess he's used to having something

on it all of the time. If your little one has bilateral cf, then

this advice probably won't help too much.

About socks, Old Navy and the Gap and run by the same company and Old

Navy is typically cheaper. I buy Sam the " off season " socks at Old

Navy and have found them for 50 cents a pair. Socks for the

Childrens Place are also similar if not the same as Old Navy and Gap

socks and you can often find a deal there too.

Sara, that's a good idea you had to fold the socks down over the shoe

laces to make it more difficult for them to untie them. I'll try

that with Sam. He is constantly working on those laces.

I wanted to say ditto! on getting rid of that line in the shoes. I

know I had a lot of stress when his foot started not touching the

line. I was fearful his foot was regressing. After I was reassured

that as long as his foot wasn't going anywhere not to worry, I sort

of stopped. :) I think I will always have that fear until he's 40!

Now, his good foot is past the line and his clubfoot is just catching

up to it and...his foot still looks beautiful, so my sort of worry is

a little less.

Sam just graduated out of his infant carrier/carseat into his 'big

boy' carseat. Now I have a new problem...grocery carts. Some stores

have the infant seats that he can sit well in, but some of them

recline too much for his liking. He sits in the seat of the basket

well, but obviously he can't do that with the DBB on. I end up just

taking it off a lot when I go to the store but then I am worried that

he gets too much free time. Oh well, I guess I will just have to

work it out.

That's all for me for now. Take Care everyone!

Hi Suzanne,

How old is Sam again? Ivy just at 15 month graduated into a big girl car

seat this weekend. Yahoo. She is much happier to be facing forward.

As far at the shoes go and shopping carts. When she wasn't standing in the

shoe, I would put a blanket in the back of the cart and have her sit in the

back of the cart. I would put the blanket in the side and the bottom of the

cart, and have her sit on that. Then I wouldn't have to take off the DBB.

She was very stable at sitting and didn't ever tip or bump herself.

I was also concerned about too much free time because of shopping and

highchairs when she was in the DBB for 23/7. I asked about a removable bar

that snapped on/off easily. Dr. Ponseti said that Markell does make one.

However when I asked I didn't pursue it because her time in the brace was

being decreased.

I agree with the previous comments about tightness. And as for the

socks, at the Gap they are called " triple roll socks. " They do in

fact have triple roll socks at Old Navy and like someone said, they

are owned by The Gap so the socks are in all likelihood the same, but

cheaper.

I just want to add that we found that putting on the shoes went far

smoother if we fed his bottle while we put the shoes back on.

We'd take of the shoes, let him play, give him a bath, put on his

pjs, & finally give him a bottle while we put the shoes back on.

Best of luck and congratulations on graduation to the DBB!

Look for marks on the feet to see if they are putting too much pressure on

any one spot if that happens then get some mold skin and use that in those

spots. That will help before any break down of skin occurs. Best of luck,

Kathy
