hi jim

when you say you were forced to give up your much loved bg meter do you mean you

had to actually get rid of it or do you still have it in your posession. If as i

suspect you still have your loved meter then could i suggest you at your own

expense buy some test strips for it and use it along with the new meter to 1

verify readings of new meter and 2,if there is a difference and it is consistent

you would have a figure you could either add or subtract. It may be that this

difference is not significant or indeed the new meter is giving an accurate

result. This is only a suggestion as 2 home metres rarely give exact same

readings

one touch does something i liked very much is that i have a three year thing

if anything breaks on it i get another one free....gold member i think it is

called...and i don't think it cost. i too like this meter alot. easy to use,

less blood and guess i am used to it by now. so far it is very near what my

a!c results show me to be within. i gotta cut down on testing tho...my new

insurance only covers perscriptions up to 600 dollars yrly...either that or

get a cheaper meter with less expensive strips....at least i think so.

I can't speak about the Accu-Check " Compact " , but I have been using

two Accu-Check " Advantage " meters (with " Comfort-Curve strips) for

over 5 years now, and find them to be quite accurate.

When I have tested using them at the same time, they test within 3-4

mg/dl of each other, and I also test when getting lab work done and

they are within 5-6 mg/dl of the lab results.

Many meters are " spec'ed " at +/-15%, so wide fluctuation in readings

may be typical. My experience shows my A/C's are much better than

that.

Just my two-cents.

, T2, DX'ed 4/98, average bg 105mg/dl, last HbA1c 6.0%,

I started out with an Accu-Check Advantage and used it for at least 3 years. My

daughter-in-law is a nurse and bought it for me when I was first diagnosed with

diabetes. My diabetes doctor gave me a new Accu-Check Complete (which gives you

all kinds of info) about 3 years ago. I have had a couple of other brands but

am so satisfied with my Accu-Check that I see no reason to use the other brands.

When I have had any kind of question I have just called the company and they

have been extremely polite and informative. I have NO problems with them or

their machines.
