Well we went and everyone was really lovely to the boys. Grandad is laid in

bed, mostly asleep but making noisy breathing sounds. The boys had both

made him cards and they presented them noisily to him. He seemed to know

they were there, and opened his eyes briefly. They were then quiet and at

11am there was a CofE service in the chapel (we are catholic) and we went to

that and because we were there the minister (or whatever you call him) said

a special prayer for grandad and everyone gave the children the sign of

peace including lots of cuddles and head touching. They also met the

Catholic chaplin to the hospice who we know from doing cover at our church,

and he made a great fuss of them as well.

We then went back to say goodbye and the boys were OK, I don't think that

they can really still believe he will die, but I think that after he does

then they will remember how ill he was, and I think it will help them.

Thanks for all your thoughts - it is lovely to have all these virtual

thoughts and hugs from people I have never met.

It sounded lovely and peaceful, Trisha, and I'm sure you will be glad that you

took them. Well done.

Children are so much more resilient than we are and accept this things very

pragmatically. Hope the aftermath isn't too traumatic for you. How is dh

taking it?

Thinking of you.

Thinking of you and your family Trisha. So glad the visit went well

yesterday, that you and the boys were able to say your goodbyes. Grandad

was obviously hanging on for them. I'm sure Jack and will treasure

the memory.

Love
