If you go to the archives at DSM, you will see a lot of material on

arginine. Basically it helps to stabilize bgs. In the presence of high

bgs, the beta cells are poked to provide more insulin; if you are on the

low side, messages are sent to the alpha cells that a release of glucose

is needed. It is also said to be heart healthy.

I find my numbers somewhat lower with it. But, as with everything, YMMV.

Calcium helps sleep. I know you are not supposed to take thyroid

hormones and calcium together, tho Vicki does and has no problems.

Don't sob, Sky. Generally speaking, a ballpark treatment is enough to

get your Alc under 6. Tho just. I mean a 90% accurate plan. To get

lower requires close to 100% accuracy, which will increase the work by

about 50%, if not more. Once you get to 5.9, you can think about it.

You are in an almost overwhelming learning curve now, juggling your

food, meds, supplements and activity. Learning how stress affects bgs.

It would be interesting to learn how your work affects your bgs.

Strips - my doctor writes a prescription for 600 for a 90 day supply and

it is filled without question. Has been thru the last 3 or 4 changes of

insurance. Medicare approved 500. But you need to see a doctor so s/he

can write a letter of medical necessity, if you need one. And the

doctor must agree on the importance of testing.

I promise you, it will get better, but you need to give it time.

I have never even SEEN the doctor, just the Nurse Practitioner who works

for him. I argued with her last time about strips and suggested someone

talk with them but she said that unless someone is...oh, I can't remember

her exact words, but sort of like you're taking lots of insuling and may

die...the insurance companies won't okay more than 100 per month. Now,

she'd originally prescribed 200 a month and now it's up to 300, but I also

have a letter from Medicare saying I may get a bill for a box of strips and

I've no idea if it is because of the prescription for 2 per month or the

fact I refilled once before the month was up or what. I have to relocate

the letter and give them a call.

In regard to my experience with Medicare is that they pay for 80% of whatever

the doc

orders. I get 3x a day or 300 for 3 months (50 in a vile). My other insurance

pays for

the rest of it, so far. Who knows in 2005.
