Guest guest
Dr. Cave's book, What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Childhood Immunizations is a fairly unbiased source of info in that she is not " against " vaccinations-- she is pro-vaccine-safety. Which means that she wants to see a safer schedule, with fewer shots, and of course, safer ingredients in the vaccines, with more consideration being given to individual family history with those who are in a more at-risk position getting their shots much later, or not at all. The book mainly just goes into what the diseases are, what are the ingredients in the shots, how were the shots made, what are some of the reported adverse effects, and really doesn't tell you if you should vaccinate or not vaccinate. It really is about the most middle-of-the road source I know of. Maybe others have other suggestions??? Guest guest
With my second (typically developing) child, I delayed her shots. I spaced them out and followed the protocol laid out in 's Caves book, " What your doctor may not tell you about childhood vaccinations. " (GREAT BOOK!) As of now, she is 33 months and the only one that she hasn't yet had is MMR. I want to wait until after her third birthday and for spring time when she is less likely to be exposed to viruses going around. (Getting shots in the winter months is very risky b/c all the viruses going around puts our immune system in a compromised state and more susceptible to vaccine damage.) In regards to Greenspan's Floor time...I think it is awesome! I bought the book " The Child with Special Needs " and it has a chapter about floor time and how to implement it. It is very easy and has made me such a better playmate with my children. It also change my outlook on how I handle my children in general. Awesome strategy! Tricia Morin North Carolina > Hi everyone. Guest guest
I will first say that I am very pro-vaccine. My daughters almost died of a respiratory virus (RSV) that currently does not have a vaccine for it. It is one of the top priorities for drug manufacturers to come up with an RSV vaccine, and when it does I will be very much supportive of this vaccine. On the other hand. Many parents do not look into whether or not vaccines are safe for their own kids. For example, the smallpox vaccine is not recommended for people that have eczema. It can kill those people. My daughter had seizures when she was little, and the DPT vaccine can be dangerous to kids that have a seizure disorder. Unfortunately, because of the RSV my daughters are highly susceptible to whooping cough (Pertussis). If they catch whooping cough they would either be very sick and would likely die. Whooping cough is very prevalent in communities with a high illegal immigrant population. We live in California, and it has a high illegal immigrant population. We decided to give a modified DPT vaccine to my daughter. For most kids, I would also probably skip the chicken pox vaccine. We didn't because my daughters have asthma, and are routinely put on oral steroids. The steroids suppress the immune system, and they could get very ill from chicken pox if they caught it while on steroids. I automatically gave my kids the Hib vaccine, and I think I would probably skip that one now. It's good to be informed about vaccines especially how it relates to your child, and to figure out the real risks vs benefits. Good luck! Suzi --- In , " af_mf " <af_mf@y...> wrote: > Hi everyone. Guest guest
Amy > > My first question is about immunizations. is over 3- has multiple issues. We did most of the immunizations at the beginning and then I started geting other info. I would first of all not do multiple immunications on Emma. There really isn't a reason to do that other than you may need to take multiple trips to the doc. We waited on the MMR. Our dev ped said that w/ her daughters she waited until they were well older than the 12 mo recommendation. She waits on many of the shots for her kids until the brain is fully ??malieanated?? around 2 years old. Also the MMR booster given at age 5 is given because not all kids " take " w/ the first shot BUT you can do a blood test to see if it did take and therefore not get the 2nd shot if it did. (The shot is cheaper....thus they don't recommend the blood test.) We also decided to not get the Chicken pox- for girls especially I think this might be an issue because it doesn't necessarily fully protect and when she gets older it is dangerous to get the chicken pox while pregnant. I am betting by that time chicken pox immunity tests for pregnant women will be routine. If andrew doesn't get it naturally by 10 or so we may get it for him. Don't beat yourself up about your son...I do that to myself....does not good:) This all said- I would just do your research on EACH shot and decide each one individually. (On the MMR I have heard that although you can do it separately...it is difficult to get one of them individually.) > > My second question is...does anyone know the proper dosage of ProEFA > for a 30 month old. is currently on 2 capsules/day of the > Nordic Naturals. What kind of results are you seeing? I have read it and follow " ideas " in it. I don't think it has helped w/ the apraxia per say-drills do that better....BUT when I follow 's lead he is more participatory and does get more out correctly because he WANTS to do it.
