Guest guest
Send them to me, me, me! (if only!!) One thing i miss in Scotland is plums, as they rarely make it this far north. As far as I am concerned they are the queen of plums and nothing else tastes the same. Lesley ------------ Do any of you have any ideas as to what I could do with a surfeit of victoria plums. My tree has outdone itself this year and there is more than we can eat, the village shop can take and the butterflies can cope with the poor things keep falling out of the sky in drunken stupor) Caroline Jersey

Guest guest
Odd coincidence...I was about to post a follow on to Caroline's message re plums, a couple of weeks back. I have at last managed to get some plums, which I love. As to the cost.....are you sitting down?? £1.49/lb!!!!!!!!!!!! You are sooooo lucky to have them falling out of the heavens! Lesley (Green with envy at the very thought) -------------------------------------------------------------------> Anybody have any good recipes for plums? Have just picked 4 carrier bags full from the garden and there are still loads out there!! ( I don't even want to think about how many apples there are......) Don't fancy making endless amounts of plum pie! Shame I dont like them!!

" Nearly cried today when we ate the last of the victorias (sob) - make plum sauce - good with lamb chops, duck nearly anything - fry some onions, then simmer with stoned plums, bit of wine, bit of wine vingegar until mushy - serve or freeze. If you have loads of apples buy a fruit press we have a vigo one which is excellent, made 16 litres of organic apple juice this afternoon, we don't have a pasteuriser so freeze it in plastic bottles - excellent flavour whatever your apples, and a good way of using up windfalls. you could prob even try juicing your plums - the kids might like it. Guest guest
> I have so far sold 50lb of them to my mums local fruit & veg shop for .50p a lb. and I have only picked to my shoulder height . took a tray full to work and gave loads to friends and there are still loads on the poor tree- to think I threatened to chop it down a few years ago cos it didn't fruit!! We used to have a plum tree and I preserved any fruit that I couldn't use/give away. really nice to be able to have home preserved plums in brandy at xmas - or to give as pressies.
