I'm doing better this morning, JoAnn. Was just plain sore last night. I think I have told you that two of the docs in the group that I see are anesthesiologists (and married to each other) who are both doing fellowships to get board certified in pain management. Sad, but their fellowship ends at the end of June and I will sorely miss them since they are moving to Wisconsin. Like some of the others docs in the group, they have been fabulous to me (e.g. one of them stayed the night in my room during one of my hospital admissions and left briefly only to arrive back with Dunkin Donuts coffee for us....Also during my last surgery, they BOTH came in on their day off and stayed through the entire thing. On the following morning they showed up with the head of the anesthesia dept and presented me with a watch). I've been so blessed that they've been willing to "drop the boundaries" and treated me like the whole person that I am.

Anyway, they are pregnant (lol poor timing) withtheir second child so I am make two baby quilts for them and will give the quilts to them before they move. (They are now pushing for me to go on disability, move to Wisconsin and become their au pair girl at my current salary. LOL They tease me and say that they've already found a "cute little uniform" for me to wear. I may just take them up on their offer....kidding) They worked on me together yesterday and had me rolling on the floor laughing. It's amazing to me what a difference it makes when people add a little humanity into their medical practice. I honestly don't know how I would have gotten through everything in the past year without them. To top things off, they've decided to totally throw professionalism aside and we'll be going out to dinner during their last week here.

I have to tell you, I'm worried, though, about how all of this will be for me after they move. I'm sure my upbeat spirit has been mobilized by their kindness, competence, and advocacy. Although the dept head will still be there and has siad he will take me as his patient even though he doesn't carry a patient caseload, I can't envision what it will be like with them gone. Oh dear, this just feels sad. Rambling. barbaraJoAnn & Russ Ford wrote:

Re: Barbara - They did even better than that since we had already tried the "trimming bit." They opted to "let 'er rip" and pulled every last one of them out, knots and all. Pretty darn sore now and covered in steristrips but at least the suckers are out. They also started me (back) on antibiotics for the infection. Good folks!

We'll continue to keep him in our prayers

Subject: Re: For my friendThanks to all. They called in the wee hours during the night. Surgery was finished at 11:30PM but as of 3AM he hadn't woken up yet. Too soon to tell....This is going to be a long haul. They do know, at a minimum that he will be deaf in one ear and have one-sided facial paralysis. The verdict is out on a number of other issues.....If he makes it through, they will slowly be able to ascertain the degree to which he will have permanent brain damage. The tumor was very large (bigger than a golf ball) and had been there for quite some time pressing on both the brainstem and the cerebellum. It will be a while before they know about the lasting effects of the trauma to these vital parts of the brain. I really appreciate your kind thoughts and prayers. Barbara
