Check your morning temperature before you even get out of bed and report it

back. The temp is a great indicator along with your symptoms.

Herbs and all are beneficial...but if you need thyroid hormone....they may

not do the trick.

The delta is good. I was reading last night how that low dosage is often

used for arthritis...and without the side effects of large dosages. The Delta

has really made a difference in my endurance and overall feeling of being

stronger. So you just stay with your plan and things will get better. I'm

about 5

months into treatment now....and although lots of things improved in the first

months....it wasn't until the fourth month that I really started feeling like

I just might live (smile) and actually feel well and healthy again. Take

care.

Well..the heart disease can certainly be low thyroid. Have they had heart

attacks?

And low T3 is associated with breast cancer.

I think I want to try upping the Delta back to 5.0. I did that for about two

weeks...but it almost felt like too much for me...so I dropped to 2.5 and

that feels really good.

I'm on 4 grains of Armour. 2 in the morning, 2 around 1:30. I worked up

pretty fast. Got up to that point in about 4 1/2 months with no symptoms of

hyper. My body was screaming for thyroid hormone and I am amazed that I was

able

to handle it that fast. But i did.

your answers to bethany were outlined so succinctly. i am going to keep that one

when i finally get the time to get in and have blood work. (although, like so

many of us, i dread even going IN to see them...)

i started delta yesterday and have my armour, ready to go, after a week or 2 on

the delta....still need to get blood work, at some point....

thanks!

this..all blood tests now and in the future are invalid.

Hi there Bethany. You've gotten some excellent replies, and I want

to add the following: you need to be prepared that the vast majority

of docs out there are not going to do you a great job in either

diagnosing your potential hypothyroid, or optimally treating it.

Thus, it is quite important to be very informed when you go to a

doc.

First, the average doc is either going to run a " thyroid panel " or

simply the T4 and the TSH. So, the first wise step you can make is

insist on getting your FREE T3 and FREE T4. The free's test what is

available and unbound. With the free's, you are getting " totals " ,

and totals do not reflect what your body is able to use.

The T4 is a storage hormone which converts to T3, which is the

active hormone. You can have a great-looking T4, and a pitiful T3.

For a doc to diagnose you by your T4, whether total or free, is

inadequate and has left perhaps millions of folks out there

undiagnosed and untreated.

A next wise step you can make, if you do confirm you are

hypothyroid, is to insist on taking Armour. Most docs will try to

put you on a T4-only med like Synthroid. Sure, it will lower your

TSH, and it will give you back some health. But it will not give you

the optimal treatment that Armour will. Armour contains the exact

same substances that your own thyroid would be giving you--T4, T3,

T2, T1 and calcitonin, the latter which keeps the calcium in your

bones.

If Synthroid and other T4-only meds were that great, there would not

be forums like this filled and growing with folks whose lives have

turned around due to treatment with natural thyroid like Armour.

As already stated, if you are hypothyroid, you will need a good

thyroid treatment like Armour. There's nothing wrong with herbs and

such. But they will not do the job.

In the LINKS section, you will find places to search for a good doc.

Be careful, though, of Shoman's Top Doc lists. It allows ANY docs to

be recommended, and that doesn't mean that the doc prescribes Armour

or tests the frees. Read them carefully. Or...you can do the ARMOUR

LOCATE-A-DOC. That can at least get you to a doc who prescribes

Armour! A good start! And....you can go to your local large pharmacy

and ask the pharmacist (not the techs) who prescribes Armour in your

area. By the way, some of us drive great lengths to have a good doc--

I drive almost 1 1/2 hrs, for example.

As far as self-treating, yes you can do it successfully. Several do

it here because they couldn't find a good doc, or, even if they had

a good one, they couldn't convince the doc to prescribe ENOUGH. But

if you are uncomfortable with that, it's fine.

Also, check out all the info in the FILES section of this site. If

you can, take time to read, read. Your best care comes from YOUR

knowledge, not just the docs. (And in the field of thyroid, it is

IMPORTANT for you to be knowledgeable in light of docs who are SO

unknowledgable about thyroid.)

We are excited for you that you can avoid all the anguish, misery

and poor treatment that we had to go through when being treated for

our thyroids with T4-only meds. You can start out right, and we are

very excited for you!!

I should definately seek out an endo instead of sticking with a regular dr.

Hi everyone,

I'm glad I found this site, I am in need of support. I have had

vulvodynia/vestibulitis since 1999. I was misdiagnosed for a while,

after getting an infection and being treated with metrogel, my

symptoms of pain persisted. I have finally decided to really take

action. I found a specialist in pelvic floor disorders, started

estrace nightly, started relaxation meditations and using a dilator

while working with a physical therapist. I have hope that I will

reduce my pain. It's really not *that* bad but it is a constant

nagging presence in my life, and since I'm single, it really sucks. I

didn't realize until now that I have a lot of muscle tightness

internally - I always just felt the raw burning of the exterior and

never considered the internal component.

Anyway, it's a little overwhelming to come into this group because

everyone is in the midst of so many different conversations, but I

hope to weed through some of the old posts and maybe find some solace

from people with my similar experience.

Thanks for being here, it's nice to have people who understand.
