My friend who has had MS for about 40 years told me that she took Prednisone

several years ago for about a week and it was a " miracle drug " for her. Has

anyone with PLS taken Prednisone, or has it been prescribed? If so, what were

the results?

I'm also wondering about neuromuscular massage. I'm sure it can't do any

harm, but does it help? Sounds as if it should, but I'd appreciate feedback

from

anyone who's had it.

Thanks.

Edith

I took Prednisone for almost 2 years. High doses and maintenance.

They also had me on Solumedrol IV for almost a year. When I first

took it , yes,,it felt like a miracle drug. I felt stronger and

better. I continued to progress though. My pain though was

controlled for a while. They put me back on Solumderol IV for about

a month in half recently. I became very weak. Had it stopped. I

have been off Prednisone for a few months now also.

I have also heard that neuromuscular massage is wonderful and I do

believe it would help me also. Just the idea of relaxation and your

muscles stretched would help.

Braintalk: They are having server problems..-- I know they hoped

to have it back up and running last week...

I have been on prednisone for at least 9 years off and on but it happens

about once a year and I only take it for a week. I have asthma so when I have a

severe attack my allergist puts me on them.. Yes it is a mircle drug I feel

wonderful BUT it has side effect as I am finding out now. I had a bone destiny

test done and the years of predisone has effected my bones. I now have

osteopeonia (thinning of the bone) only on one hip. I take " Evista " which they

say

will reverse the process. So before warned...........Flora

Hi Edith,

Yea, I did take Prenisone for PLS. At first I thought it was a miracle

drug. My feet felt so light - not like they weighed a ton. I could get them

off the floor when I walked.

But, then the side effects set in. First of all you can only take it for a

short period of time. Everyone else gained weight on it but I lost.

Except for my face which became so round that it looked like a moon. Then,

it tore my stomach up in spite of alll the medications that they gave me to

combat that. So, Prednisone didn't do good for me but you may have none of

these symptons. Beth

--Edith, I took prednisone for a week a few years ago when I hurt my

knee. It is wonderfull takes all your pain away,BUT when you go off

you just are back to the way you felt in the first place. It is

dangerous to take for a long period of time. A Man that my mother in

law knows has been on it for years and he is in a world of hurt

because it has done alot of bad things to his body. He took it for

something he has wrong with his legs and at first it helped, but has

made his legs so weak from taking it for so long that he is unable to

even walk anymore. I could tell you some horror stories about another

lady that I know and what it has done to her, but I will not as I

think you probably will hear from more of us on how bad it can be if

taken for to long a time. In my opinion a week is the max. I hope I

haven't scared you, but It really is a bad drug. Carolyn- In PLS-

--Edith, I was so eager to tell you about prednisone that I forgot to

tell you about massage. I did it for awhile it was wonderful. My ins.

won't pay so I had to lay off for awhile. The only thing you have to

make sure they don't do deep pressure on your muscles because with my

experience they could go into bad spasms. All you have to do is tell

them to be gentle and they will. Carolyn- In PLS-
