Ah, yes!

All you need is a shot somewhere

Far away from the eyes that stare

And some low carb fare

Oh wouldn't it be Loverly!

Well, I've been off the Avandia for six days now, and the result of that

is that the congestion in my chest, including a bronchial sounding cough

is almost gone - I can actually take a deep breath; the sinus congestion

that has plagued me for two years is gone; rapid heartbeat (not

tachycardia strength) in the evening is gone. This alone is an

excellent reason for me to use insulin even tho I'm not where I need to

be .. yet .. with the basal dosing, but I'm working on it. Today, at

12:45 p.m. bg is 104, the lowest it has been before 3:00 p.m. in the

last two years since treatment started. So, yeah, I'm testing

frequently to avoid going toooo low - I know about that, and continuing

the metformin with meals. By , I think I may be able to do this,

in spite of the doctor. I'm actually kinda glad that he's set himself

up as an antagonist to my success, because it makes me determined to

avoid lows, lose-not gain- weight and get A1c numbers under 6. Wouldn't

it be loverly?

Another thing happened which has really blown me away - I got on the

treadmill yesterday. This has been a source of excruciating pain in my

legs for the past two years while treating with oral meds only, and I

could only do 6-10 minutes at a time, just enduring the pain. Well,

yesterday there was NO pain, none, not at all. I couldn't believe it.

And Friday I got through a whole birthday shopping trip with the GD

without even thinking about my legs hurting. So I guess, with even the

small amount of insulin I'm injecting the muscles are starting to get

the glucose they need. I'm trying hard not to beat myself up for not

being more agressive with the doctor a long time ago. This morning I

woke up feeling rested and ready to jump out of bed and that hasn't

happened in years, and that's even with waking up at 2am to test the new

nighttime insulin dose - have to go to the bathroom anyway, so it's

really no hardship. My next blood test is in January, and will probably

have to browbeat the doc into a script for Humalog to handle the dawn

rise, and replace metformin completely, I hope. We shall see.

Thank you to everybody, especially Vicki, for encouraging me to fight

for the insulin. That light at the end of the tunnel may NOT be an

oncoming train after all.
