There are loads of people from this area out in Oz(due to oil business) and

they don't seem to have any complaints about not having company during the

day. And another friend who went out with her DH's insurance company said

she wouldn't have had time to work, she was so busy during the day!

I'm still p****d off that DH's company reneged on our move to Perth. WA last

year as it would have been fun to set up an Oz wide NCT!

says that everyone goes back to work after children and I doubt I would get

a working visa some ex-pat NCT people would be nice!

I have been reading (more) books about living out there and it says a

significant number of births are induced. Antenatal classes provided by

Medicare (NHS) are about 120 Oz dollars. Postnatally, mothers are left

to fend for themselves. Even more reason for some NCT mums to help set

up services.

My midwife has lent me a book called " Birth after Ceasarean - Unlimited

Possibilities " which is all birth stories from Oz. I was horrified to find

out that over there it seems that only elective c/s is carried out under

epidural and virtually all (so-called) emergency ones are done under general

aneasthetic as a matter of policy.

Sounds about right if my friends experience is anything to go by.... no

postnatal

home visits... so guess who gets the 'phone calls asking for advice??

And guess

who was thrilled to be able to pass on a snippet learnt from Sue S about

holding

the baby as close as possible to you during feeding? Had a phone call

later

that day saying thank you and how convenient b/f was compared to bottle

feeding

(she gave up b/f her first after less than a week) no bottles to warm

etc, and

she could 'just do it anywhere'. So I must pass on a big 'Thank You' to

Sue for sharing that bit of info (bet she's racking her brain now trying

to remember when!)

It was the day I came out to see you to vote - as I hadn't got my New Gen and

was flying to Oz that evening!!! Thanks! I used your exact words to

(Hold her so close you couldn't get a piece of paper between you) and it seems

to have done the trick!

I 'nicked ' this from Sue H - thanks Sue, it is proving very useful. I spoke

to a mother this week and said to her (this is after she told me the m/w had

checked her positioning and said it was fine but it still hurt!) and she

replied " a sheet of paper! I could get a telephone directory between us.

I'll try that. "
