However, if you have longterm high BGs this can definitely inhibit wound healing (like tooth abscess or foot or other wounds). Continued high BGs are damaging to your body in the long run. A few days of high BGs that come with fever won't do permanent damage - but do get them under control as soon as you can. And while you're sick be sure to drink plenty of water. If you have Dr. Bernstein's book, I'm sure there's a chapter on what to do when you're sick. . (I can't check, I loaned my copy out). Guest guest Posted January 11, 2004 Report Share Posted January 11, 2004 hi any infection can cause raised bg.during period of infection it is important to take all diabetic medicines as normal and ensure you drink plenty preferably water.as it is only likely to be of short duration no permanent harm should be done.
