my blood sugars always seem to go up when I am fighting off an infection

No, it's just the opposite, actually, but I don't know with regards to a

general infection. However, if you have longterm high BGs this can

definitely inhibit wound healing (like tooth abscess or foot or other

wounds).

Continued high BGs are damaging to your body in the long run. A few

days of high BGs that come with fever won't do permanent damage - but do

get them under control as soon as you can. And while you're sick be sure

to drink plenty of water.

If you have Dr. Bernstein's book, I'm sure there's a chapter on what to

do when you're sick. . (I can't check, I loaned my copy out). If you

hi

any infection can cause raised bg.during period of infection it is important to

take all diabetic medicines as normal and ensure you drink plenty preferably

water.as it is only likely to be of short duration no permanent harm should be

done.

Pain can increase blood glucose levels, and it certainly can raise

blood pressure as well.
