(Well the size of a tea plate) Just as well one of us is brave enough to deal with them PS Sue W have you read the section on spiders in the Aussie guide books? Not yet but the piece about swimming had us rolling! Beware of freshwater crocs, sharks, jellyfish etc. There are thousands of kms of shark nets but sometimes they aren't there; sometimes swimming in the sea is an activity best left to marine wildlife etc. That's why we have to blow all our money and get a swimming pool there. :-) -- Sue
Guest guest
Actually you really ought to read Bill Bryson's 'Down Under' very funny. Even DH has read it and he liked it so much that when he got to the end he started again!! Nearly bought it on Monday but can't stand reading hardbacks and very rarely make an exception (Harry Potter 4 being a notable one!). Although if I can find it half price somewhere on the web I might. -- Sue
Guest guest
I bought this book and really enjoyed it. It is a bit different from his other books (Small Island, Big Country, Walk in the Woods etc), I think because he is purely an observer in Australia (in the other books he was laughing at himself as much as the country when he made his observations). I think it would be great fun to go on holiday with Bill Bryson - punctuating the serious stuff with trips to pubs at every opportunity. One of the lines in the book was something like " we wondered if 10.30 (am) was too early to start drinking " . That's exactly what dh and I are like. Splash out! It's only £8.49 at Amazon - not much more than the cost of a paperback. Snap! (or at least it was DH who relented for HP4) I read pretty fast (don't be impressed, I don't remember much!) so it doesn't seem 'worth it'. In fact best of all is the library...(we have big problems in this house with 32 books to get to and fro every month!) -- Vaudin jennifer@...
