Being happy doesn't mean everything's perfect. It means you've decided to see beyond the imperfections.

You know, I have a "hearing" dog, I just got; the local school paid $5000 for him; in all honesty, I mean he is very well behaved, and I can take him to a restaurant and he just sits under the table; the thing he does best is the smoke alarm; if it goes off, he jumps on my bed and paws me. My computer is upstairs, and we are still working on the door; they tell me I need to practice for 3 months, every day; well, I live alone, and getting someone to come out in winter and knock on your door for 3 months is not easy!! You know most people I know who have had a dog for a while, it automatically goes to the door. My problem is he gets up and goes to the door and I don't notice!! So the dog is standing at the door and I am upstairs! DUH. We haven't progressed enough yet to where he alerts me. I will read the sites suggested, I can use the tips.

But he is great company! Marie

Well his name is Rex; he came with a name, he is supposed to be a spaniel

mix. Body looks spaniel, face looks like Earl Dillon's dog. 25 pounds.

I have had two hearing dogs since 1982. They both died with cancer.

The last one in 1997. My kids were small when I got the first dog

and it was hard for her to work right or even get a chance to work.

My wife at the time told me " either the dog goes or I go " , I

said " bye bye " . About the time we divorced I had to have my dog put

down but The Dogs For The Deaf had me another one in three months. A

beautiful dog she was. At 10 years old she quit eating and from then

on it was down hill and in May of 97 I had to have her put to sleep.

I had seen a friend cry about her dog that had died and I

thought " how silly " . Oh, now, I can see why the tears. For me, just

boo whoo and no water. I decided after 15 years with a dog I would

turn to signalers and I had married again to a woman who was hard of

hearing and not deaf. Well, today my kids are grown and wife number

two and I are separated and I NEED a dog but just don't WANT one. It

takes alot to keep a dog maintained and I am not able or willing to

commit to it any more. I have a good dog with the same potential as

Jimmy's but most dogs have that. I am considering though to check

into getting another hearing dog. They will stick by you and you do

not have to kiss them or sleep with em but they do have doggie

breath.
