She said my numbers should be no higher than 120 in the morning. Now with the Lantus they are around 135. It's better than 160, but still not good enough. We are slowly increasing the dose trying to get me in the correct range. I started Lantus because of this too, but still can't get my morning number down low enough. I realize that I can't counteract the morning rise with lantus or I'd go low in the middle of the night, but my fasting is still high - raning from 150 (rarely) up to 200 or more. Then it will go up another 50 for the few hours between 7 or 7:30 and 10-10:30. I inject humalog when I get up to deal with the morning high number and the rise, but I don't know how to deal with the high fasting number. Maybe Ron's right and UL works better for this, but during the day my numbers finally are making some sense and are in a good range, so I hate to tinker too much with that. I'm wondering about other solutions. Another problem I have is that I'm using twice as much lantus as I was using at the end of July, but the results are very much the same. Can't quite figure that out at all. Stacey
Guest guest
Good point, SulaBlue...In the post I responded to, Patti didn't mention the Avandia or how long she'd been taking it and my senior citizen brain doesn't remember past messages too well. (Well, it was there at the very bottom but I didn't see it). So you made a good point. Yes, by all means, give the Avandia a chance to work. I'm already on avandia and metformin. I'm on 4 mg of the avandia because at 8 mg, I got swelling of ankles and such. I think the avandia is contributing to my weight gain since diagnosis and kind of want off it. I'd rather increase the metformin. I go in for my three month check up in a couple of weeks so will address all this and more there. My a1c will certainly be up, which ticks me off, since one of the reasons I chose to go on insulin was to have improved numbers, not worsening ones. I did restart alpha lipoic acid and evening primrose oil last week after a month's hiatus, and I am seeing a difference with them, hard to make averages yet, but it looks like about a 20-30 lower number in the morning thus far.
