Guest guest
just wanted to vent a little to someone who understands. my husband was diagnosed with T-2 just about a year ago and seems to be doing well according to his Dr. First thing I did was get rid of that ADA diet with it high carb counts and limited his carbs as much as I could. He has watch his brother who is also diabetic go through a lot, lost both feet and a kidney plus now he is having heart problems, so it was easy enough to convience my husband he must pay strict attention to his diet. It is a struggle around the holiday especially with so much sweets around his work place but I keep them out of the house completely so he has a place that is diabetic friendly to come home to. the problem arises when he receives a large package from his brothers wife , a gift for Christmas. What was it you may ask. Well it was a large bag of homemade cookies, candies etc, all poison to a diabetic. This woman know well that he is diabetic and this is the third year in a row she has sent these things even though I have told her repeatedly no to send this stuff she keeps on. The problem is husband seems to feel that this woman being the wife of a diabetic knows what he can eat so this stuff should be safe for him. I have told this woman to not send anything that has sugar or is high carb but she is insistent that a diabetic needs all the carbs they can get. Easy to see why her diabetic husband has had so many complications in his life due to the diabetes. I admit I'm no brain and am at a loss as to how I can explain to my hubby why he should avoid these things when his brother and SIL are telling him otherwise and his Dr is no help thinking the ADA diet is the answer. Told hubby I'd ask you all to help clairfy this. Also any suggestions on how to get his woman to stop sending this stuff I have to hide till I can get rid of it, hard to do since he picks up the mail daily so gets it all first.
