Dear lee:

Your best source of data is at: www.thyrodine.com

Chances are that in addition to Thyrodine to restore your thyroid function,

you may need progesterone cream to complement the Thyrodine. A Biogenic

nutritional program would also be incredibly beneficial.

best wishes,

Introduction - New to List

From: gold61@...

Hi...

I'm lee and I live in Houston. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 2

weeks ago. I had a baby 8 months ago and gained a LOT of weight during

pregnancy. Haven't lost much at all. I knew there had to be a problem with

my metabolism and sure enough there was. I'm hoping to get better soon. I

have an appointment with an endocrinologist at 6 weeks. I don't feel any

better yet; no energy and no weight loss

I look forward to learning from you all; I feel very UNknowledgeable with

this!

Hi lee and Others:

I am also new to this list. lee, we seem to have a bit in common. I

too was diagnosed about 3 weeks ago, and my Doctor thinks I got

hypothyroidism from being pregnant. I'm 31 amd my baby is 18 months old.

I also gained an enormous amount of weight while pregnant - about 80 lbs.

I still have a lot of weight to lose. I am hoping that once the Synthroid

kicks in I will lose some, although I understand some people still have

trouble losing.

I've been taking the Synthroid for about 3 weeks and I thought I would lose

right away too, but haven't lost one pound yet. I am told it can take a

couple of months for the medication to really help you feel better. I guess

I am pretty anxious for it to really start working! I am wondering how long

it took other people to really start feeling well??

Also what is everyone's opinion about going to a specialist vs. staying

with your regular doctor? I really like my internist a lot and respect her

entirely, but am wondering if I require a specialist of some sort.

lee, I too felt very unknowledgeable so have been trying to find all

the info I can. I found some good websites with tons of info:

http://www.thyroid-info.com

http://thyroid.miningco.com

http://thyroid.about.com

I hope this helps. I know how particularly exhausting it is to be feeling

so tired and have a little one to care for all day. It seems like there is

so much to learn. I am looking forward to talking to everyone here! I am

interested in learning more about natural/alternative methods of helping

hypothyroidism.

in peace,

Kristilee

Hello ,

I am new to the list too and I will introduce myself here. We do not have a

diagnosis of Apraxia yet, but all of the signs are pointing in that direction.

Our little girl was adopted from China in March 2002 at 12 months. We thought,

like you, that her speech and other developmental delays were due to the year in

the orphanage. She has made leaps and bounds in all developmental areas except

the expressive speech. She was just tested in the receptive language category

and scored at 4 years! (She turned 3 March 8th.) I can only imagine how

frustrating it must be for her to be understanding at a 4 year old level but not

be understood verbally... she is also quite small for her age and people assume

she is much younger. She doesn't like to be treated like a baby! I look

forward to your and everyone else on this list's insights! Also, can anybody

recommend any doctors/speech thereapists with experience with apraxia in the

Syracuse, NY area? We like who we have now but it is all new to them...

[ ] Introduction - new to list

Hello,

I joined this list at the recommendation of the Speech/Language

Pathologist who worked with my daughter last summer for Auditory

Integration Training. The SLP thought that my daughter might benefit

from supplements such as ProEFA and L-carnosine and mentioned that

this list had a lot of information about it. My daughter does not

have apraxia but she was diagnosed with a developmental language

disorder with aphasia, sensory issues, central auditory processing

disorders (including hyperacute hearing, hence the AIT), and just

recently an EEG showed an epileptic pattern in the left temporal lobe

(where speech/language and memory are mainly processed).

My daughter is 6 years old and was adopted from China at 10.5 months

old. Due to the trauma and deprivation of her early months, as well

as the abrupt language change when she was adopted, we expected some

delays in her development and speech, so we were not too alarmed that

she was somewhat slow in reaching developmental milestones. Anyhow,

to make a (VERY) long story short, her problems were not so severe

that they were really noticeable until she started school, but the

past year and a half has been a nonstop round of testing, therapies,

fighting the school system and medical insurance to get services...

(I'm sure you all know the drill) but I feel at this point that we

are finally on the right track and I am just continuing to look for

ideas and therapies to help my little girl reach her potential.

Your suggestions and advice would be most welcomed!

Thanks,

Hi & Gail,

I too have a daughter adopted from China. She was 12 1/2 months old

on gotcha day & is now 26 months old. She has been in the EI program

since turiung 20 months. Although I do not yet have a formal

diagnosis, I am convinced she suffers from Apraxia. I just finished

reading The Late Talker & cried throughout, so much of what was in

the book, the signs were all about my Callie.

Gail, if one more person tells me not to worry & to give her some

time ( she heard Chinese her first year, she was in the orphanage

etc.. ) I am going to scream. I no longer listen & am forging ahead

with or without blessings. Is she in the EI Program? Callie is

getting speech 3 times a week ( just increased from 2 ) & was just

evaluated for OT ( oral motor weakness, sensory integration, feeding

problems, hypotonia etc... ) I am very lucky in that our EI SLP is

trained in PROMPT & incorporates that into her therapy.

I can't begin to tell you how helpful the members of this list have

been - the amount of inforamtion is staggering.

Welcome

Yes, Mackenzie is in EI, has been since about 24 months. She recieves speech

twice a week, PT once aweek and has a special ed teacher come once a week. Like

I said, she has made excellent progress in all but the speech. We just changed

therapists and are going to see a ped. neurologist. I know what you mean,

everyone tries to say that Mackenzie will " catch up " on her own, that her delays

are from being in the orphanage. It is obvious at this point there is more to

it then that. We have good therapists, it just seems like no one in our area

has any experience with Apraxia. I have a masters degree in education and

didn't know what is was, so I am now trying to educated myself!
