I think you can also think about the medications you are on. Have you started something new or increased a medication? The medications I take cause horrible cotton mouth. I keep a glass of water with me all the time when I'm home (which is 99% of the time), and I also suck on a lemon drop when it gets bad. The lemon drops really do help with the dry mouth. a B. We were having trouble getting the small portable tanks to work. Someone came out to check and told her that it seemed to be working fine, but if her nose is stuffed up (which it is), it may not sense her breath. Anyway, he said we could get something over the counter, water-based, to help clear her nose. Any advice? Also, she is very weak and her breathing is so much more labored than it was before...will she be back to how she was before the surgery in terms of her breathing or is this now how it will be? She had colon surgery..thanks for any advice. I know she really appreciates the support and advice from this group. (daughter of ) Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile. Guest guest
The most important question is how high is your PSA, and what's the PSA history? Question Hi I am 62 and have an enlarged prostate for sure. Had a urinary test done and my prostate is really big the tester said. I will be sitting up a prostate biopsy but I don't feel it is cancer. If it is just an over size which medicine ( flowmax) that I have been taking isn't helping then surgery is needed to reduce the size. My question is I am going to ask my doc is there a one time surgery for both the reduce and prostate biopsy. Then if it is cancer go from there for treatment. Oh my PSA is high too. Guest guest
My psa was 2..for many years..then went to 16 in about 9 months..result of the biopsy was positive and I had a rapid doubling time. After the biopsy..my gleason score was 7....and with the psa at 16. I had also had some heart issues so could not elect any surgical procedures. SO..the only procedure I could do was the hormone / external radiation . I've now had 5 radiation treatments...and just starting the side effects of urinary things..such as up three times last night..and I had never had to get up at all..ever. And the hormone side effect did kill the testosterone...libido...and INTEREST! However...with a viagra..did accomplish taking care of myself. Due to previous cancer treatment of her own..my wife and I do not have sex. We are both 73....and fine with that. THUS far..then I'm happy with the way the treatment is going... and hope for the best...! The support group has confirmed that the urinary problems will continue...and hopefully subside...a couple of months...after the treatments are complete! Guest guest
Tom thanks for replying. I have a 7.43 PSA they are saying a Ultra sound biopsy on the phone. What is that? I get a recording about my blood test only and can't ask questions until Monday. > > The most important question is how high is your PSA, and what's the PSA history? > Question > > > > Hi I am 62 and have an enlarged prostate for sure. Guest guest
I did have the biopsy ..with 10 samples...and also...one turned up with cancer. So I had the proton hormone shot..which is good for six weeks..and now the 28 external radiation treatments...fine done and 23 to go. URINARY urgency beginning...and burning..but the suggested drinking cranberry juice does and is helping. THANKS for all the help on this site! To: ProstateCancerSupport Sent: Sun, May 16, 2010 9:24:24 AMSubject: Re: Re: Question The only ultrasound I had was to determine whether the cancer had spread outside the prostate (thankfully, it hadn't). My biopsy was the old fashioned 12 sample, with one of the 12 turning up malignant, so I guess I'm not the one to address your question about ultrasound biopsies, but obviously your PSA is on the far side of the 4.0 that uros consider to be the cause for concern. I did Lupron plus 44 radiation treatments and my PSA, thankfully, is .1. I strongly considered brachytherapy but decided on IGRT instead. Guest guest
Jim is right to suggest you check that your Uro intends to use a local anaesthetic, not all do. I had anaesthetic for the biopsy but when I had the second trans rectal ultrasound procedure, which is to insert the 3 gold markers for the IGRT radiation, and uses much the same equipment as the biopsy, my uro asked 'Was I brave?' and then proceeded without anaesthetic. I felt every milimetre those 3 seeds were rammed into my prostate. Eyewatering to say the least. All the best for the rest of your sessions, I had 40 and found my urinary urgency didn't get any worse after the first couple of weeks. Spain.
