That's great to hear, Cappie!!! I noted that they had that Japanese pork

and also " Heritage " pork. I hope it's wonderful! Let us know.

As a side note my own diabetic stuff is pretty much the same. Last night

just before bed at midnight my BG's were under 100 for the first time. It

was 97 two hours after a rather light dinner at a friends that I know was

relatively low in carbs. I'm still taking the two 500mg tabs of extended

release metformin " with dinner " . They still do nothing for the morning

BG's, which range from the 120's at 7ish to the 130's at 8ish. The only

reason I haven't started taking my metformin when I go to bed is that

that's when I take lipitor. I'm not sure how the two meds would work

together if taken at the same time.

I sure will let you know--I hope after all this effort everyone made to

help me that I finally get a taste of really good pork again. Fatty

pork is not something I would eat every day but since pork is a

Christmas tradition in my family I want to truly enjoy some flavor not

spend my time with the hard chewing of that cardboard " other white

meat " . :<)

Thanks so much to everone!!!

PS Sky I take my statin at night just before bed but I take my last Met

dose at 6pm with my evening meal. Never had a problem. Have you

considered taking one dose as soon as you get up in the morning & the

other dose just before bedtime?

I was told to take the metformin with my evening meal, but If I understand

something put up a few weeks ago that he got from www.drugs.com

(quoted below) the peak concentration would be happening quite a bit before

7 a.m. when I usually awaken and test. On the other hand, taking some THEN

wouldn't serve much purpose that I can see. My afternoon into evening

numbers are lower, anyway.

The quote:

> " Following a single oral dose of GLUCOPHAGE XR, C max (peak plasma

>concentration ) is achieved with a median value of 7 hours and a range of

>4 hours to 8

>hours. Peak plasma levels are approximately 20% lower compared to the same

>dose of GLUCOPHAGE, however, the extent of absorption (as measured by AUC,

>the area under the plasma concentration versus time curve) is similar to

>GLUCOPHAGE. "

I think that if this weren't the extended release sort, maybe taking it in

the morning might help. With just the pills alone...and I'm just taking two

so far...I can't help but wonder where my afternoon lows would go to get

something reasonable in the mornings.

At bedtime, I take 10 mg lipitor with 1000 mg metformin ER (in addition to a

large number of other things). If there are specific instructions with the

med not to take it with other things I follow those instructions, but otherwise,

I just swallow them down. I do tend to take my fiber capsules at an off time

-- not with other meds (when I remember to take them at all) -- as they can

cause things not to be fully absorbed.
