Guest guest
Hi! And Help! I've been listening in on this site since June 2001. My son is now 4 years old. He was diagnosed last May with Severe Oral/Verbal Apraxia. Last January he had about 50 words. Now he is spontaneously saying 3 + words at a time. My question is his behavior. Since 2 1/2 he has been in EI and than he started school at 3 in a Pre School Disabled with the School District. Anyway- is " behavioral " . He will start out with a teacher or therapist & work beautiful with them. One month to 6 weeks later (it's almost clock work) He starts playing games-testing the waters. This year he has the same teacher as last year. And since he is a January baby he is repeating the same curriculum from last year. (FYI-he has # recognition (working on counting to 30 @ home), letter recognition, shape recognition and so forth) So, another words I feel he is definately a little bored this year, adding to his behavior. I even have him reading a little-since he's been 3 1/2. It just drives me crazy that a child can go from the " highest functioning in the class " the 1st month of class - And at that point we were going to enroll him into regular nursery school to now a meeting going to be held possibly to change programs. The teacher, uses words like " he knows what he is doing " , " it's a game to him " , " he's very manipulative " , " he's very controlling " . Also, she mentioned the 1st 5 months of school he didn't suck his thumb in class and now he is. Also, he is getting aggressive-not hitting-but kicking and stiffening up, where it physically takes to people to put him in a timeout chair. I just can't understand how a child can be so dynamite and then be so behavioral. Anyones thoughts would be appreciated.
