Guest guest
Sky, when did you have your wine? I find best results if I drink it in the last hour of the day and it has to be at least four ounces. A glass of wine with dinner, which I did last night, holds down my PP numbers. But too much alcohol is not good either and, generally, I limit myself to one glass a day before bedtime. Helen

I was watching Iron Chef and started it about halfway through, finishing near the end of the show at midnight. I was in bed not 15 minutes after that. I'm not sure it was 4 ounces, though, as it was the last of the bottle. >I find best results if I drink it in the last hour of the day and it has >to be at least four ounces. > >A glass of wine with dinner, which I did last night, holds down my PP >numbers. I also found out that I can't just have a low-carb smoothie for breakfast and expect my numbers to stop climbing. I just grabbed one this morning thinking maybe just a little something would help since 3 eggs didn't seem to do much. Wrong. They went up to the 160's. sky
Guest guest
Anything alcoholic will work to hold down bgs. While the liver is processing the alcohol, it doesn't have enough resources to do a liver dump. As this mostly occurs just before and/or after dawn, the bedtime drink offers the best timing. However....a sugar laden drink might defeat the purpose. A smoothie is virtually predigested; there is nothing to hold down absorption. As an experiment, you might try one with some fiber mixed in and see how that hits your system. Then there is Vicki's cereal, solid, yet easy on bgs. Has she ever posted it here? Guest guest
I have in the past, but it's been a while and there are a lot of newbies out there...so I'll post them again. << Christy's hot cereal #1 Mix together equal portions of wheat bran, ground flax seeds, rolled oats, oat bran. (I mix up 1 c each and keep in tupperware in refrigerator). For one serving mix 2:1 water with cereal mix and nuke for two minutes. I also add a tablespoon of chopped nuts. Christy recommended 1 c water to 1/2 c mix but that's too much cereal for me; I use 1/4 c mix and 1/2 c water. She likes hers sweet with splenda and cinnamon; I prefer mine salty. Try it both ways; it's good. Doesn't raise BGs hardly at all..and everything in it is Good For You! Cereal #2 (can be either hot or cold) Mix together 2 T ricotta, 1 T ground flax seeds, 1 T unsweetened coconut, 1 T ground nuts, 2 T cream, 2 T DaVinci lowcarb syrup to taste, 1 T wheat bran. Nuke or eat cold. Again, doesn't raise BGs hardly at all and it's very filling. All the ingredients are available through Bob's Red Mill online or your local health food store (if there is one near you). The URL for Bob's is bobsredmill.com (duh, smile). There was a cereal recipe but I don't remember now if it was Vicki's. I went to the Whole Foods market and bought the ingredients, and that's when I also bought the rotisserie-cooked chicken that gave me food poisoning. I sort of forgot about the cereal. 8-< I need to mix up the ingredients and try it. I seem so sensitive to carbs, though, I almost hate to give it a try right now. I feel like the returning highs this past week are going to give me a higher a1c than I'd hoped for. I hope I can get another one on my visit next week. I'd read that medicare (or maybe it was insurance companies in general) won't okay one of those more than every three months and it's only been two since I've been diagnosed. I think my best bet is a high-protein meal in the morning. My 2-hour post meal test will be higher than the FBG in the morning, but it doesn't seem to keep going up after that. Of course, today my post-smoothie breakfast went higher at the 2-hour mark but might not have gone higher after that, either. I didn't check at 3 hours because I ate about 3 ounces of cheese right after the check. sky Type 2 dx'd 9/04. Low carb diet. Synthroid, Lotril Finds any excuse not to exercise.
