Guest guest
I don't discard it, because I am using a sterile needle out of the pack. I just put the insulin back into the vile and start all over again. I have been doing it this way for at least 5 years and no problems. Eleanor bubble in the insulin syringe I just recently started taking Lantus, and I have a question... what do you do when you get a bubble in the syringe of insulin? I've tried flicking it to get rid of the bubble, but that just moves it to the top. Sometimes I can get rid of it, but if you can't, do you discard the whole syringe full of insulin? Sandy H. Guest guest
hi in my case if i get an air bubble i flick the syringe to get the bubble to the top and press the syringe to expel the air before injecting. im not a medical person but i doubt if a small air bubble is detrimental as you are injecting in to muscle/fat and not intravenously. Guest guest
Sandy, how are you doing with Lantus? You said your sugars were very high and not able to get them down. I had this same experience and Lantus is perfect for me. I love getting up to good fasting sugars! Happy New Year to all! If the bubble is at the top, depress the syringe plunger to push some of the insulin out the end of the needle, hopefully the bubble with it. If it's a big-ish bubble, I'd start over but I don't worry much about a really teeny one. No, *I* wouldn't discard the syringe full of insulin, I'd put it back into the vial and try again . . . but then, after 24 years, I'm fairly cavalier about insulin. Guest guest
I was in the hospital with an IV and a large bubble was in the tube heading for my vein. I had a fit and got the nurses who were in no way concerned. One bubble was not to be concerned over????? This was my experience with bubbles. I have given shots and gotten the bubble out of the syringe. G

Guest guest
Thanks to all who gave me tips about getting rid of the air bubbles in the syringe. After reading all the messages, I think I'm worrying a little too much about doing everything perfectly. Good to know I can re-inject the insulin, as long as the needle is sterile. I don't re-use the needles, so that's not a problem. I guess I'll become an old hand at it in time :-) Sandy H.
Guest guest
How much Lantus are you injecting? My doctor wanted me to start with 20 units, but I can see that's not enough. He'll probably increase the dose when I go in for my next appointment in a couple of weeks. Sandy
Guest guest
Sandy When my husband was first diagnosed he was told to take 15 units of Lantus in PM. Every morning that his BG tested over 100 he was to up it by 2 units. He did not have to ask the doctor if he needed to up the dosage, he was told to do so. He did up the dosage until he reached 25 units then was able to back down with low carb eating. He is off all of it now. Hi, Jo... sorry I'm so late responding to this message, but it was lost in another folder. I just found it with 3 other messages from you and re-directed them to the right folder. A belated Happy New Year to you! Yes, my sugars were very high, and the Lantus is working well, but I think I'll have to increase my dose a bit, as they're still 200 in the morning, but much better than 300 :-) How much do you take? I take 20 units at night right now. Sandy
