Generic Name: Omeprazole Information Title: OMEPRAZOLE - ORAL SUSTAINED RELEASE CAPSULE Uses:This medication works by reducing the amount of acid produced by the stomach. It is used in the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease, in the treatment of conditions such as the Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome where excessive stomach acid is produced, and in the treatment of erosive esophagitis. In some instances, this medication may be prescribed for treatment of duodenal or gastric (stomach) ulcers, alone or added to antibiotics to help cure ulcers related to infection (H pylori). How to Use This Medication:This medication works best if taken before eating. Antacids may be taken with this medication. The capsules are sustained-release and must be swallowed whole. Do not crush or chew them or the long action may be destroyed and the chance of side effects increased. Side Effects:This medication may cause diarrhea, constipation, stomach ache, nausea, gas, loss of appetite, headache or dizziness the first few days as your body adjusts to it. If these effects persist or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Unlikely but tell your doctor if you develop back or joint pain, nervousness, sleep disturbances, cough, chest pain, unusual thirst, change in amount of urine or vision changes. This medication may rarely cause loss of hair, ringing in the ears, swelling of stomach or fatigue. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate medical attention. Took one of those kinds of drugs before and I was dizzy and tired all the time. :-( But how to protect my stomach so I can take hydrocortisone? Guess I'd better try to get ahold of my doctor. Thanks.
