I'm taking an OTC product made by TwinLabs called " super enzyme caps " . The

active ingredients are pancreatin, betaine hydrochloride, pepsin, bromelain,

and papain.

Prilosec isn't a digestive enzyme...it reduces acid & has a long list of

side-effects.. :o)

Drug Name: Prilosec 10 mg Capsule, Sustained Release 24 hr.

Generic Name: Omeprazole

Information Title: OMEPRAZOLE - ORAL SUSTAINED RELEASE CAPSULE

Uses:This medication works by reducing the amount of acid produced by the

stomach. It is used in the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease, in

the treatment of conditions such as the Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome where

excessive stomach acid is produced, and in the treatment of erosive

esophagitis. In some instances, this medication may be prescribed for

treatment of duodenal or gastric (stomach) ulcers, alone or added to

antibiotics to help cure ulcers related to infection (H pylori).

How to Use This Medication:This medication works best if taken before

eating. Antacids may be taken with this medication. The capsules are

sustained-release and must be swallowed whole. Do not crush or chew them or

the long action may be destroyed and the chance of side effects increased.

Side Effects:This medication may cause diarrhea, constipation, stomach ache,

nausea, gas, loss of appetite, headache or dizziness the first few days as

your body adjusts to it. If these effects persist or become bothersome,

inform your doctor. Unlikely but tell your doctor if you develop back or

joint pain, nervousness, sleep disturbances, cough, chest pain, unusual

thirst, change in amount of urine or vision changes. This medication may

rarely cause loss of hair, ringing in the ears, swelling of stomach or

fatigue. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this

drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction

include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness or trouble breathing. If you

notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions:Before using this medication tell your doctor your medical

history especially of liver or kidney disease or of any drug allergies.

This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy.

Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if this

drug is excreted into breast milk. Because of the potential for adverse

effects for the infant, breast-feeding is not recommended while taking this

drug. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor before breast-feeding.

The elderly may be especially sensitive to this drug.

Interactions:Before taking omeprazole, tell your doctor of any

over-the-counter or prescription medications you are taking especially

diazepam (Valium), warfarin (Coumadin), phenytoin (Dilantin), ketoconazole,

ampicillin and iron. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or

pharmacist approval. This drug may cause an allergic reaction in patients

with a history of sensitivity to the following: Omeprazole/Lansoprazole.

Use the Interactions Checker located on the main toolbar for additional

interaction information for this drug.

Dosage Information:Minimum/Maximum Adult Daily Dose:20 - 40 mg (milligram)

OR 2 - 4 Capsule, Sustained Release 24 hr.

Take any missed dose as soon as possible but not if it is almost time for

the next dose. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and

resume your regular schedule. Do not " double-up " the dose. Storage:Store at

room temperature and keep away from moisture and sunlight. Do not store in

the bathroom.

That's precisely why I don't want to take it. Took one of those

kinds of drugs before and I was dizzy and tired all the time. :-(

But how to protect my stomach so I can take hydrocortisone? Guess

I'd better try to get ahold of my doctor. Thanks.

It says to take after meals. I only need to take it after PM dinner. My

tummy seems to only start hurting/cramping/bloating/etc. in the evening.

I imagine a similar product could be found most places. I ordered mine from

www.drugstore.com.
