A Thermography is totally harmless! I had one that finally gave me the final dx that I needed, 1 yr 3 months after I got injured and W/C was screwing me around.

What they do is have you put on a gown, and they will change the room to 3 different temperatures thru out the testing. Where ever they are checking, upper or lower....you will not be able to have any kind of clothing covering you at all. So, if its your upper, they will let you keep the gown or a sheet wrapped around your lower half and that is it.

But, besides changing the room temps....1. room temp 2. warmer than normal 3. cold (when they do cold, they may have you put the opposite hand of the side they are checking into a bowl of ice cubes.)

Otherwise, all they do is take pictures that will show them the different body temperatures in your body.

Black, dark purple, dark blue...any very dark cool colors means that there is no oxygen/circulation going to that area.

Bright colors means heat....plenty of circulation/oxygen.

What the tech told me when I was asking her all about it when I had mine done, is, that the darker the colors (black, dk blue, dk purple...) is what the doctors are looking for, which tells them where the RSD is the worst at, and also that it shows them that is where the atrophying is at. Unfortunately, it showed that I had quite a bit of atrophying even then at that time....although to look at my leg, you can't see it (hence, the no visual symptoms I have)....probably cause of all of the fat I have on it! lol. Fat seems to fill in where the muscle isn't.

But....at least I am able to give you some good news....NO POKING!!!!

SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME!! I think were identicle! its unreal bout those blocks huh?? we dont know if my upper body RSD (spread) is from the block or the stimulators they put in. They went into da same spot as the block?? Dr's concerned bout the spreading in my spinal column. im having tests in a coulpe weeks on my back. I think a thermograph? Have you had one?? wat is it?? is it painful?? I dont need anymore of that i have my fill. POKE WIT A FORK IM DONE! The weekend was hell wit all the cookin and workin round for a picnic wit 100 poeple! I cant do dis anymore and i always loved too. I HATE DIS DISEASE.
