Guest guest
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I think I'm going to have to break down and buy the Atkins book to read. I had hoped to be able to wing it since things are so darn busy here in the spring (goat's kidding, garden to put in, kids sports, ect...) but it sounds like it is necessary. Thanks again! Guest guest
JoJo my husband dorian has what the dr.called brisk jaw jerk. and he has trouble not to bite his cheeks or tounge. this was a problem right from the start before he was dx with pls . Welcome I would like to welcome all the newcomers to the group and also apologize for not welcoming you individually. My energy level hasn't been the best lately. The group is wonderful - full of knowledge, humour and support. Lately, I have noticed a change in the movement of my jaw and seem to be biting the sides of my cheeks from time to time. Also some of my food becomes lodged in the pockets between my cheeks and teeth. I was just wondering if anyone else group has experienced this as I am wondering if it is PLS-related or something else causing this to happen. When I tried taking Celexa it seemed to exagerate the jaw problem. Will mention it to my Neuro on June 11th but was hoping to get some feedback from the experts first. Also sometimes when I go to stand up I feel like there is a little wire being pulled (Twanged like a banjo string) in the inside of my left leg. This is starting to happen more frequently. I would appreciate any input you can give. Thanks. Jo!

Guest guest
Dolores, ..........That is great advise to get a bone destiny test. Folks it is an easy test you even keep your clothes on and its over in about 10 minutes. Just lie back on the table this thing moves over you and its done and they tell you right away what the results are. In my case I am in the early stages of ostopenia (sp) so I take " Evista " for it. I took steroids periodically for my asthma so over the years it has effected my bones but by taking the Evista it can be reversed..........So PLS doesn't stop you from getting other STUFF. This year I've had a colonscopy (SP) all clear there! A esophagogastroduodenoscopy (camera down the throat) yes its one word don't ask how to pronounce it. Now I have a Hiatal Hernia don't know yet they are going to do about that it all depends on how large it is. Naturally the doctor went on vacation so I have to wait to find out. It doesn't cause me any pain I just had a lot of indigestion that is why I had the test................Geeeeeeeeeee I hate this......Flora
Guest guest
Welcome to all the new members of our group. I've been a member for about 3 years and have found it to be a wonderful source of information, support and sharing/caring. I live in CT and have had symptoms of PLS since around 1985 or so. It took me almost 10 years to be diagnosed. I am a non-working Registered Dietitian (I don't get paid, but I do a lot of volunteer " dietitian stuff " for various groups). Admittedly, I am very concerned about the number of broken bones that are reported here. It is so important to keep your bones strong with an adequate calcium intake. That gets overlooked all too often. I try to practice what I preach, so fortunately, my numerous falls have not resulted in any breaks. There is very effective treatment for osteoporosis, especially if started early. A bone density test is easy and can detect a need for treatment. Prevention is a lot easier than trying to heal those nasty and disabling breaks. I am the organizer of the CT Connection, a PLS/HSP support group. We have a get together coming up on June 21 in Wethersfield, CT. Let me know if you'd like to attend. Dolores d.carron@...
