subject might I ask if there are any other babies with clubfeet on this site

that were also born with a " dimple " on their spine? I was given some info about

it by one doctor but had some other questions.

Holly and Lorna,

Here are some links on the dimple, strawberry patches, hair patches,

etc:

(this site has pictures, so be prepared)

I hope these links answer some of your questions! I plan on printing

some of the info off to take to Rose's doctor, so I can remember what I

want to ask her. :)

Regarding conditions that are sometimes associated with clubfoot,

somebody posted something about something called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome

a while back on clubfoot.net and other message boards:

http://www.clubfoot.net/messages/read.php3?num=2 & id=35 & loc=0 & thread=35

EDS is characterized by hypermobility, skin extensibility and tissue

fragility.

Holly,

Each doctor we saw (ortho, family doctor, ped ortho and second-opinion

ped ortho) all checked the dimple. None of them seemed to be

concerned, and only one doctor (the second-opinion ped ortho) explained

why. She did have an ultrasound done of her hips. I think it was to

check for hip dysplasia, but now I " m thinking they probably checked for

the spina bifida, also. It made me a little concerned, too! I'm going

to bring it up to the family doc at Rose's two-year checkup just to make

sure we have all our bases covered.

All these questions have come to my mind, also. Especially the

incidence of having a baby with spina bifida (By the way, I don't think

the just having the dimple qualifies as spina bifida. I think the

dimple could signify spina bifida occulta, which is addressed in one of

the articles I sent the link for, but not neccessarily). When we had

our ultrasound, I made sure the tech checked the spine really well.

Looked great! :) As to being higher risk, IF i remember correctly, it

didn't sound like it from what I read. As to your other question, I'm

not sure. I wish I knew more. Well, the reason I probably don't know

more and the reason I don't write much anymore, has just woken up from

her rather short nap!

Joy,

Surely did'nt mean to concern you about the dimple. Once was born with

her fancy feet we had every pediatric doctor in the hospital pay us a visit

before we went home. They all checked the dimple (which I never even noticed,

my husband did though) and never said anything. Our pediatrician checked it too

and Dave finally asked what everyone was looking at. She said if you can see

the bottom of the dimple there's not a problem. Dr. Farley (ped ortho) had it

checked out because her daughter was born with the same thing and being a

doctor in her specialty she knew what it could signify and just wanted us to

clear our minds of it. She was right. You have nothing to worry about (I'm

sure) Rose is so much older now, if there was something wrong you would have

known a long time ago. Say hi to Rose from !

Holly,

I'm not too concerned about Rose's dimple. Just figured I'd discuss it

with her doc to make sure. :)

I have a parent writing to me, and I believe she must live close to you!

She had a 9 hour drive to DR. Ponseti, and she also met Dr. Farley in

Iowa! I believe she wll be seeing Dr. Farley for follow-up visits.

Though, like you, she's rather uncertain of Dr. F and wants to continue

seeing Dr. P possibly. Small world,huh?! :)

Joy,

I would be very interested in talking with her about U of M. If you talk with

her again would you give her my email address and if she would like to contact

me that would be great! If not, I completely understand. Do you know how old

her baby is? Did she fine you through " Rose's Story? "
