Guest guest
Dani: Read your email to Amber. My son may have apraxia and sensory integration. We are looking for a Doctor to help us out. Any references you can give us for our area? Bollig Phoenix AZ [ ] Re: Aspergers and Apraxia?? > Hi Amber, > The criteria for dx'ing AS (Asperger's Syndrome) and HFA (High Functioning Autism) are very similar. The one deciding " trait " between the two is the prescence of a speech delay before the age of three. A person with a speech delay before the age of three would not receive a dx of AS but more likely would be considered HFA (if found to be on the spectrum at all). > > Was it the school that suggested that Hunter has AS? This is something that should be looked into by a Developmental Ped., Ped. Neurologist or Neuropsychologist not by the school or his therapists as they are not qualified to make such a dx. If you need to find someone within these specialties just post your location to the list and I'm sure you'll get a bunch of great references. > > Good luck. Guest guest
Hi , You and I couldn't be much farther apart and still be in the same country, lol! I'm all the way in Long Island, NY but I may have some resources for you to check out that I found on the web. Two names that kept popping up everywhere were Dr. Robin Blitz and Dr. Kessler and both are from St. ph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix. Their website said that you should contact Maricopa County Medical Society at (602)252-2015 for referrals to specific physicians. I also came across Scherzer, M.D. listed as a dev. ped. in sdale. Her # is (480)951-3066. You may also want to contact the Southwest Autism Research Center and ask them for a reference in your area. Their medical director, Raun Melmed M.D., is a dev. ped. (I don't have a number for them. I believe they are located in Phoenix.) I hope this helps. I wish you the best of luck in finding a physician that best suits your needs. Let us know how your search turns out so we can pass the references on to others in your area. ~Dani~ > We are looking for a Doctor to help us out. Guest guest
Hi do you know any great developmental doctors in Long Island or New York? I a going to be going to Dr. Agins in April, and believe me nothing is to good for my 4 year old girl, but she does request $800. Also does anyone know of a good wheat and gluten free bread? Guest guest
A good GF/CF bread is found from Deland Bakery in Deland, Florida 1-386-734-7553 They bake their own breads and they have yeast free as well. They also carry hotdog and hamburger buns and Raisin and Apple/cinnamon Rolls. They have been the best I have found so far. A loaf of bread runs around $2-3 dollars, its the shipping that kills you. If you can get a group of people and get a large order, they will give you a special discount price. I bought 10 loaves or so and froze them. Their website may be www.delandbakery.com Good Luck, Amy Gurss LDelaneu@... wrote: > Hi do you know any great developmental doctors in Long Island or New > York? Guest guest
Hi Lori, Thanks a bunch for checking. I'll pass the info along. ~Dani~ > dani > checked in variety preschool and there are no bi-lingual italian/english > teachers for your friend's child. sorry. the social worker says she doesn't > know of any program on the island that has one. hope she can find one, > somewhere. > lori >
Guest guest
My son is a patient of Dr. Agin and she is well worth the money. To be honest with you, her rates are much lower than many other doctors I've heard her. Also, my school district knows her name and an evaluation and recommendation by her was all I needed to get my son all the services (and more) than I wanted. Good luck with whatever you decide. Guest guest
I wholeheartedly agree. Dr. Agin is worth every penny. Without her intercession on my son's behalf this year, I would not have gotten the additional speech services he most definitely needed. My school--and integrated program in NYC public preschool for children with speech and OT issues--would not help me and she came with me to an IEP meeting which we recalled and she fought like a tiger for Adam! I adore this women, she knows her stuff and she sees the things you see but stopped talking about cause everyone told you that you were a nut. Adam is doing great and has been recommended for regular kindergarten with additional speech and OT services on the side. If you can do it, go see Dr. Agin, she is worth it. Guest guest
I would have to recommend Dr Rubin, He is in my opinion the best around. Just try looking up his name over the internet you will find his credentials. He has two locations...One is on Windsor PKWY in Atlanta. Guest guest
I have used Dr. Sonya Bussey. She is not DAN and she is not aggressive with bio-medical treatments, but she will write prescriptions that you ask for and monitor your child's physical health as appropriate for those medications. I also took my ds to Dr. for dental care. He was gentle and very willing to work with ds, who had to sit on my lap in the exam chair in order for Dr. to look inside his mouth. The work had to be done under general anesthesia. When my insurance would allow, I took ds to East Cobb Pediatrics (BTW all of these docs are in East Cobb cty). We started in 1991, there, with Dr. Montana. He has since retired, but the rest of the staff has worked really well with ds. > I am trying to gather information for a family who has two children with > autism and two children who have significant developmental delays. Guest guest
Hi! Below is a list of developmental pediatricians in the Atlanta area and whether or not they will file insurance and/or accept Medicaid. My own personal recommendation is Dr. Rubin. I like his conservative approach to medicating kids, the fact that he accepts Medicaid and that he shows genuine concern for the kids and their families. We used to see another but have been much happier since switching to Dr. Rubin several years ago. ___________________________ A developmental pediatrician specializes in treating children with an additional specialization of treating children with developmental delays. Successful early identification of developmental disabilities requires the pediatrician to be skilled in the use of screening techniques and of developmental surveillance, to actively see parental concerns about development, and to create linkages with community resources and interventions. Below is a list of some Atlanta area developmental pediatricians who are uniquely qualified to diagnose and treat children with developmental delays. Dr. Woodlawn Developmental Pediatric Center 1121 Ferry Rd, Suite 225 Marietta, GA 30068 678-560-3999 (will file insurance and accepts Medicaid) Dr. son-Lippitt Children's Habilitation Center 2400 Herodian Way, Suite 150, Smyrna, GA 30080 770-850-8588 (does not file insurance and only accepts Medicaid for children under 2) Dr. Amy Pakula The Marcus Institute 1605 Chantilly Drive, Suite 100 Atlanta, GA 30324 404-321-0393 ext. 100 (will file in-network insurance and accepts Medicaid) Dr. Rubin Developmental Pediatric Specialists 776 Windsor Parkway Atlanta, GA 30342 404-303-7247 (will file insurance and accepts Medicaid) Dr. Alan Weintraub Developmental and Child Behavioral Associates, PC 5635 Peachtree Parkway, Suite 120 Norcross, GA 30092 770-416-6428 (will not file insurance and does not accept Medicaid)
Guest guest
We also see Dr. Rubin and have been extremely pleased. I love how he gives 110% undivided attention when it comes to my child, (all his patients). He is never in a hurry to get out of the room. The last time that we saw him he kept pictures that Ethan had drawn...to put up in the office. He also comes down to Gainesville once or twice a month, I not sure. He sees patients at the Babies Can't Wait office. Yet, you still have to make an appointment with the office in Atlanta, even is you would rather go to Gainesville, (they schedule all appointments through that office). Call and check him out, we think that he is great. mother of Ethan, age 3, dx pdd, the sunshine of my life.
