Guest guest
yes, Atkins works, so does Dr. Bernstein's low-carb diet. Low-carb works for diabetics in general. Why not read both books and see which one has a maintenance plan that you can live with? If you need to lose weight you will lose on almost any diet that cuts calories and carbs. If you don't have a maintenance plan, and go " off " , or back to your former way of eating, you'll gain weight back whether you use Atkins, Bernstein or WW. Guest guest
Hi Vicki: Thanks for the info, I will get the book and do some research. I am very obese (i.e. 100 lbs over weight) I have high blood pressure, Glucoma and soemthing called Mieuners disease which affect my hearing and balance. My family doctor was very concered because my A1C was 7.5 and my LDL Cholestrol was 155. That with the blood pressure and the diabetes are putting me at risk for a heart attach. So that is why I was sent to an endrocronologist. The biggest thing right now is they not only want me to get control of the diabetes and blood pressure but get the weight down.... So I am on the long road to changing my lifestyle and eating habits and I can use all the help I can get. Thanks Sandy (Tazgirl) > Hi, Tazgirl, welcome to the list. Guest guest
Thanks Carol, Vickie gave me the website for Dr. Bernstein and I am going to order the book. I know that this is a lifestyle change and I am going to do my best to stick with it. Well I have to stick with it if I want to get healthy again. Thanks Sandy (Tazgirl) > > I just went to a new endro doctor and she changed my insulins from > > humulin to novolog and lantus. See also put me on the > > Atkins diet. Guest guest
HI everyone i'm new to this group and i figure i should give a little introduction. My name is i'm 17 and live in Clolorado USA. I was diagnosed with type 1diabetes when I was 12 and that's when all the problems started. I had to have surgury and in the pre-op blood work they found elevated blood sugar (210) The endocronologest emedeatly said type 1 and put me on insilun. Well he kept increasing my doses becuase my levels wern't going down. My mom desided that wo would just work out the dose on our own and i fineallygot to normal levels. Only problem was that i was haveing to take over 400 units a day. NOw our insurance will only covor a pedeatric endocronologest untell i'm 18 so the doctor i was seeing and his partenr are the only docs avalable. I didn't think that it was right that i was haveing to take that much insilunbut the dc wouldnt listen. So again we took things into our own hands and i went off insilun and just used homeopathic, diet and exersize. My levels were a little high ( between 160-210) but to me and my parents this said that type one was unlikly. FOr a while we thought i was just in a honnymoon phase but it's been 5 years now. A year ago my PCP/ Gyno but me on Glucphage (along with other things) For PCOS which is a hormonal imballance and among other things useally causes insilun resistance. FOr a while this was working really well but my numbers have been creeping up again recently. And i'm just so confused and don;t know what to do. I know that i should be doing something but untell i'm 18 (may 24) andcan get a Endocronolegest idon;t know what to do. OK not that was a lot longet that i thought i was going to be but if your reading this it meansyou read the whole thing and I thank you for not giveing up. Guest guest
I don't really know what " type " i am but I have read a lot about something called MODY (maturity onset diabetes of Youth) which seems to fit me pretty well. It's not quite type one (because i do make some insilun and have continued to for years) and not quite type two i'm hopeing that i can soon find an endocronologest that can help me figure things out

Guest guest
Eve: You read my mind! I live in the Detroit, MI area and need to find a specialist. My OB/GYN can refer me to someone in Ann Arbor but there is a 6 month wait right now. Any information you have on a good Dr. would be great. Do they specialize in vulvar issues? Thanks again. Molly RE: New Member Hi there,Welcome to the group! I joined about a month ago and everyone here is really nice. It's the greatest resource of information and support that I have found yet!I have had vulvar vestibulitis my whole life, however, I was just diagnosed in January(I am 24 now). My doctor currently has me on Estrace Cream(once a day before bed) and Amitriptyline(50MG/day). This has been working well for me so far. I am not pain-free but I am better than I was 7 months ago.I found a doctor in Milwaukee with the help of my husband and lots of trial and error. Unfortunately, she is retiring in September, but she did give me the names of some other doctors that can continue my treatment. I am in Wisconsin, but she did give me some referrals to other doctors in Chicago and Michigan. If you live in this area and need a doctor I could send you the contact information. Just let me know!Hope this helps!Eve
Guest guest
HI Eve, Glad you're finding the group helpful and friendly, *smile* That's always good to hear. And double glad to hear you're in better condition than you were. Hopefully the Estrace will continue to get that skin healthy hon... just don't over use it and when you think you're doing pretty good you might consider tapering down a bit with it and use it as a maintenance thing. Glad to hear you know of some good docs in the Chicago/ michigan area too.... you never know, we've members from around the world. *smile* Hugs and much continued success hon Dee~
