Guest guest
Hi all, In the process of working on getting some kind of diagnosis for my almost 5 year old (we see the Developmental Ped in a few weeks) but anyway we know we have hypotonia and are pretty sure we have apraxia or some kind of motor planning issue as well. But I'm beginning to also wonder about ADD. During group activities (like soccer and swimming) my son is the one who is constantly called to pay attention (probably 10 times more than any other kid per class) though he does fine (for the most part) in school where things are more structured but does show signs of boredom as he is ahead academically. I'm not sure if the inattention is due to these physical things being difficult for him and he has a day dreaming personality anyway or if there is something else there. But anyway I was browsing for a book as a gift and I came upon Dr. Sears ADD book. It is only $6 so it seems like a good investment and it had positive reviews on amazon. But anyway has anyone read this and found it helpful? It is supposed to have positive ways to deal with attention issues. I figure that if it doesn't apply I'll still get something out of it for $6 and I can pass it on to one of our therapists to give to something else when I'm done.... When things are calm he has a very long attention span even for things that are boring but in a new or chaotic environment he is so different. It really worries me for starting " real " school next year in a class of 20ish. We are starting all the special ed testing but I can't imagine testing in a one on one will be helpful at determining whether or not this is really an issue. I'd hate to do all this testing and his IEP and not address everything. If anyone else is interested this is the link to the Dr. Sears ADD book for $6 they also have a bunch of other clearance parenting books mostly for $2 or less that I'm still browsing through. http://www.bookcloseouts.com/bc/display.book.asp?ISBN=0316778737 & rid=kidbook* * * *
