Guest guest
Hi there, I am in the process of having my son tested as he developed posotve signs of heavy metal toxicity(esp. mercury) post 2 seizures after mmr and varivax last summer. He had what the doctors called mild encephalitis symptoms, however since then he has developed further signs. Muscle wasting and strength, minimal growth down from a 75% since birth till around 2 and now is less than 5% in over all height and weight, and we are not small parents, just average. Definite cerebellum involvement, mostly right sided deficits, also goes along with merc poisioning. Positive Rhomberg and positive star tests but can finger touch nose alternativley consistently. I am anxiously awaiting our appointment with a DAN doctor to get to the bottom of this EFA's did help but it is not the total answer in my son's case. He has food sensitivities especially phenols so I am figuring some type of yeast. He acts like he is drunk after eating high phenol foods, pizza apples tomatoe, his ears go on fire, like tomatoes. You are ahead of me as far as knowing exactly where your son is nutritionally deficient, my son now has muscle wasting going on so it is scaring me, but at least i feel I am on the right track finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. If you would like to exchange any info, i would love to keep in contact, All the best Colleen
Guest guest
Hi Colleen & Pam, We had Kai tested through ICMT (International Center for Metabolic Testing) out of Ottawa, ON, CA. It is a private clinic (also known as " Nutri-Chem " ) known internationally and have done a lot of work with downs syndrome and autistic children. I did a great deal of research into the clinic before scheduling. I also spoke with individuals who had gone through the clinic and are currently off all medications as a result of supplementation. We waited approx. 3wks for the results once the blood was taken and then met with two individuals for feedback on results. The two staff we met with include a medical doctor (who had once been in private family practice and became so convinced re: nutrition/supps on her own speech/language delayed child that she joined Nutri-Chem) and a Pharmacist/biochemist. The results are overwhelming for a non-biologist and I keep re- reading and researching the info to fully understand. Kai too is hypoglycemic. We are just starting (this week) supplementation using a custom formula specific to Kai's needs. Colleen, I'd be happy to keep in contact and share results. Feel free to e-m privately. Guest guest
Hi Gin, Hypoglycemia and type 1 diabetes is prominent in our immediate family. Simply, Kai's mood, behaviour and focus/attention becomes irrational due to his hypoglycemia. This can make our 1-on-1 sp. therapy difficult at times when he hasn't eaten appropriately (e.g, protein -nuts, eggs, meat, and long-lasting ww carbs vs. juice, crackers, cookies). He becomes hyper one minute then extremely fatigued, angry/aggressive - hitting, screaming, shortened attention span, unfocused. Its a case of the extreme terrible twos yet literally within minutes of giving a cup of apple/orange juice or in extreme situations a 'sugar tab' Kai becomes a happy, sociable, attentive child able to sit and focus on therapy for the remainder of the session (which now has a built in snack component). With respect to the clinics interest its a matter of maintaining balanced blood sugar levels via appropriate foods and diet/nutritional supplementation. Hope this helps.
