Guest guest
Bobbi, most doctors will prescribe a walker for you when having PLS. I didn't have to ask my doctor, he just wrote the script he knew its best to get use to one and safer................I used a cane for a while but soon advanced to a walker less strain on your back and feet you have more to hold on to and distributes the weight a little more evenly. If I walk to much my legs still feel heavy and my ankles hurt too!! You just have to learn how far you can push yourself...........Flora
Guest guest
Dear Bobbi, I know what you mean. That is why this group is the greatest. I think most of the answers can be found here. When I was first diagnosed a representative from the MDA told me I had I could have a consultation with the physical therapist. I told her that the one one area I wanted to work on was walking more confidently. The therapist recommended forearm crutches and a 4 wheeled walker. I am using the crutches and soon to get the walker. When my speech started having problems it felt like the muscles in my throat were giving out and tightening and closing. On my tongue it feels like a bug is crawling on it. It is weird! Take care. P.S. I did not need a prescription for the walker. It was just a recommendation from the p.t. indurance I am open to all comments. I was wondering if anyone else has a problem with their back giving out before their legs when you try to go any distane. I use only one cane and feel tht maybe a walker would help with that like when I'm outside by myself. Don't know how bad you have to be to ask for one. I did however leave a message with my neuro today not heard back yet. I have also started having some speech problems can't hardly sing, feels like my throat and tongue are half paralyzed or thick. Is this the way it starts for most of you. I feel like why even tell the doctors when there is nothing they can do anyway. Bobbi from Ky. Guest guest
Hi Bobbi: Yes that is how my speech problems started and I talk realllllllllllllllly slow. It is good to let your doctor know so they can monitor your progression. Take care. Jo! indurance > I am open to all comments. Guest guest
Sue Ellen, I want you to definitely know that the Beatles songs are all " short term memory. " They haven't been gone all that long, have they? My 12 year old son really enjoys them, so they must still be here. My wife has some original 45 rpms of their songs. Wonder if anyone still has a machine that plays them? Or knows what they are? Just a little jab, Mike Sue Ellen & wrote: >bOBBI, >I can't sing anymore either. Guest guest
Hi Bobbi, Yep, you have the nasty PLS. My tongue feels thick, and my legs get in my way when I try to walk. When my legs do their on thing, I compensate by walking funny. I used to be a < walker, now my toes turn in. I think my hip and back gives out now because of the way I have had to compromise my walk. I hope you dance again, Donna > I am open to all comments. I was wondering if anyone else has a problem > with their back giving out before their legs when you try to go any > distane. Guest guest
Donna: Our way of walking does throw everything out of alignment. I was having trouble with my knee giving out, but since I started wearing the brace it has been fine. Who knows, maybe we will dance soon. Jo! Re: indurance > Hi Bobbi, > Yep, you have the nasty PLS. Guest guest
Jo, The inside of my knee is so painful from the way I have had to walk. I can't stand any pressure on it forcing me to pull myself up with my arms. I know pain is comming if I stand up and this makes me tense then I fall. My ankle, foot and knee, on that side, is swollen to about twice the size of the other. They check for a blood clot, but thankfully it was negative. You give me hope that the AFO will help me. I hope you dance again, Donna > > > I am open to all comments.
