Cristina,

If he doesnt have a yeast infection or oral thrush, express some milk

straight onto his little bottom after you clean him up. The antibodies in

your milk, along with the live cells that promote growth, will help heal

his raw skin faster than Desitin. Desitin can also harbor bacteria and

give them a place to grow.

Instead of giving him Immodium, try cutting back all the dairy products

both you and he eat... no milk, cheese, butter, sour cream... Apple juice

can contribute to diarrhea, as can other clear fruit juices. Pedialyte is

just sugar water with some salt. You can freeze some breastmilk in an ice

cube tray or small popsicle tray, like Tupperwares Brr-Animals that only

hold 3 oz, and offer those instead. If you have stored your milk in the

fridge, offer that to him instead of cows milk. You can cook with it too,

even for the whole family. If you have fresh milk stored, skim the cream

off the top, put it in your bread machine or a small jar, and make your own

butter. (Shake, pour off water, shake some more, repeat.) Breastmilk can

be more effective on calming his digestive system than anything else.

If you have them, use cloth diapers for a few days to give his bottom more

air. If you dont have them, you might pin a small hand towel around him

(one you are willing to part with), or maybe just let him lay on a towel

for a bit each hour without a diaper on.

The urine in his diaper may also be painful to him, so it might help to be

sure to keep him dry until his bowels settle down.

Hugs to both of you during this!!
